Fun With Decorative Masks

Stampin Up Decorative Masks

I love it when I discover or come across a new way to use a product instead of just the usual way.  I found this one online from Jennifer McGuire.  She showed a video on how to use Decorative Masks in a different way.

To make the background on this card I first took a 4.25″ x 5.5″ piece of Basic White card stock and layered one of the Plenty Of Patterns Decorative Masks on top of it.  I taped it down so it would not move.  Then I used Post-It notes to cover around a section in order to keep one color in that section.

I used a Blending Brush to add colors to one section and then would move the Post-It Notes to another place to add some color there.  I repeated this process until all the sections had ink.  The colors I used for this were Night Of Navy, Pacific Point, Bermuda Bay and Pool Party. It reminded me of a stained glass window.

After I was done with the background, I cut out the sentiment using a die from the set called Floral Gallery.  I actually cut it out three times and layered them on top of each other using Multipurpose Glue.  I like how it added more dimension to the card then just using one layer.  You probably could use white card board (like the kind that comes in our packs of Designer Series Paper) to achieve the same affect.  I adhered that to a piece of Bermuda Bay card stock layered on a piece of Coastal Cabana card stock.  Lastly I added some Playing With Patterns Resin Dots.

I left the inside of the card plain so I can pick a sentiment when I am ready to send the card.

  1. Beautiful card Susan. Thanks for sharing all the helpful details. Definitely a labor of love.
Is it okay that I love the finished background piece even more than with the sentiment added? ☺
