Today is my husband, Rob’s birthday. Rob and I have been married almost 39 years. It is hard to believe it has been that many years but after having three amazing boys, three wonderful daughter-in-laws and SIX awesome grandchildren we are still here together. After 39 years I have come to realize that marriage is not an easy thing. It takes hard work but it is worth every minute. I wouldn’t have wanted to spend all those years with anyone else.
You know, everyone has their quirks, their good habits and their bad habits. One of my bad habits is I don’t close doors or drawers until I am all (sometimes never) done doing whatever I was doing . It drives Rob crazy. For 39 years he has been going behind me and closing up things. The other thing is I don’t put things away in the garage. I take the garden hose out to water something and I leave it on the lawn. I take a rake, shovel or whatever tool from the garage and I don’t hang it back up. I figure I am constantly putting things away inside the house so I shouldn’t have to do the outside too. Don’t you agree? Rob patiently goes behind me again and hangs up the rakes, puts away the hose, picks up my gloves, etc. Isn’t he great? Of course, since it is his birthday I am not going to mention any of his bad habits!
When I saw the stamp set called Home & Garden and the coordinating Garden Dies (you can save 10% if you purchase the bundle) I knew I had to make him a birthday card using them. The dies come with a rack and hooks for hanging up all the tools but I decided not to them it because when I get done the garage looks more like this card. So let’s be honest here. Who has a garage that is ALWAYS neat and clean? Garages are just meant to be a mess. That is my story and I am sticking with it!
To make this card I first stamped all the tools in Basic Gray ink. Then I colored them using my Stampin’ Up!® Blends. I took the coordinating dies and cut them all out. The gloves come with a pair together so I cut them apart using my paper snips. I cut out all the tool hooks in Basic Gray card stock. Then I hand drew the flower pots. I do have a couple of stamp sets with flower pots but they were too big for the card. Next I adhered everything to a piece of In Good Taste Designer Series Paper using a Dimensional at the bottom and Multipurpose Glue to the top. I wanted it to look like they were leaning against the wall. I attached everything to a piece of Basic Gray card stock and a Smoky Slate card base. The sentiment is from the stamp set called Tasteful Touches.
The inside of the card says “Thanks for putting up with me”.
So Happy Birthday, Rob! Here is to many more spent together. To be fair, you know I am going to have to mention a few of your bad habits. Maybe I will do that on MY birthday. The Mostest.

Man Susan, did you out your bad behavior or what??!! This is such a great birthday card, esp given your various “behaviors”. I love the way you’ve added so many gardening elements!

Oh, my gosh – I LOVE how no tools are hung up and things are in disarray. What a great card. (Mike & I are the opposite. I’m closing and putting away until I just get tired.)
