Last Day To Order From The Occasions Catalog!

20140103_Occasions_en-USToday is the last day you can order from the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog.  I am really going to miss this one because I think it is one of my favorites since becoming a demonstrator 6 years ago.  It has some great sets that are retiring such as Happy Watercolor, Peaceful Petals and Happy Congratulations.  It also has some great Designer Series Paper such as Watercolor Wonder and Kaleidoscope.  If you like any of these things, order them today because they will be gone tomorrow!

The new Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog starts tomorrow!  If you would like a copy of the catalog, just send me an email.  If you are a customer of mine and live locally, you can come pick one up for free.  If you need one mailed, you will just need to pay for the cost of shipping ($6).  If you are not a customer of mine, the catalog is $5.00 but you will get a $5.00 coupon towards a $25 order with me (does not include tax or shipping).

Starburst Sayings Washi Tape Card

Starburst Sayings, Washi TapeMay is such a sad but exciting month in the world of Stampin’ Up!.  There is the excitement of the new Annual Catalog coming on June 2nd but at the same time it is the month where we find out what is going to retired.  Then, to top it all off, it is the last month for the Occasions Catalog!  Sometimes it is hard to keep track of it all!

This card has some product in the Occasions Catalog, some in the Annual Catalog and some that is going to retire and be gone for good.  I used the Gingham Garden Designer Washi Tape for the background.  This Washi Tape is going to retire and is available while supplies last.  One of the stamp sets I used is called Starburst Sayings has matching Starburst Framelits and is in the Occasions Catalog.  The good news is that it is going to be carried over to the new Annual Catalog.  The bad news is right now you can buy it in a Bundle and save 15% but once the Occasions Catalog retires on June 1st that special Bundle pricing will be gone.

Goodbye Peaceful Petals

Peaceful PetalsPeaceful Petals is a stamp set from the Occasions Catalog that was not carried over into the new Annual Catalog.  This means that it will retire on June 1st.  I am going to miss this set especially now that Stampin’ Up! is going to start selling their own set of alcohol markers called Blendabilities.  As a Demonstrator I was able to purchase some of the them.  Stampin’ Up! wanted demos to try them out.  I am not sure when they will be available for customers to order.  We have been told they might not be available when the new catalog goes live on June 2nd.  I will keep you updated on this.

I colored the flowers in the card using the Coastal Cabana Blendabilites.  Most of you who know me know that I can’t color to save my life but I have learned I actually do an ok job using the Blendabilities.  Stampin’ Up! makes it so much easier because each pack of them comes in 3 shades of the same color:  dark, medium and light.  You just color with the dark one where there would be shadows,  The blend over that with the medium one and use the lighter one where you think the light would be shining.  It is not hard to do at all and I am sure with a little more practice I will learn to color even better.

Don’t forget if you like this stamp set to order it before it is gone forever!

Happy Watercolor Club Card

DSC02105

This is one of the cards we made at our monthly Club Meeting.  I wanted to show the ladies all the different ways you can color your stamps.  This time we used ink pads and Blender Pens.  If you squeeze your ink pad while it is closed it will leave a little ink on the inside cover.  Then you take a Blender Pen and dip it in the ink and color your stamps.  You don’t have to do it super carefully because you want it to have the watercolor look.

We used the stamp set called Happy Watercolor (very fitting for watercoloring!)  It is in the Occasions Catalog.  This stamp set is available until June 1st and then it will be gone forever.  It did not carry over into the new Annual Catalog that starts on June 2nd.  The butterflies were made using the Beautiful Wings Embosslit.  This embosslit makes five different embossed butterflies.  This die is going to continue in the new catalog, which is terrific!

Next month the Club is going to learn how to watercolor with the new Blendabilities!  You are going to love them!

A Crazy Emma Story

DSC02104

As some of you may know, my stamping room is in the basement.  Emma, my Golden Retriever always comes downstairs and stamps with me.  Well, she really just lays in her bed at my feet while I stamp but we still always do it together.  A month ago, Emma refused to stay in the basement.  She would run down the stairs and then run right back upstairs and hide in the bathroom.  This was really strange behavior because she never hung out in the bathroom before.  No amount of coaxing would convince her to lie down on her bed in the basement.  It even got to the point where she refused to come down at all.  As soon as I started to go down the stairs, she would run to the bathroom and lay down.

After a couple of weeks of this, some friends of mine came by.  Usually when they stop by, Emma goes crazy and is so excited to see them.  This time she just lay in the bathroom.  What?  One of them mentioned that dogs are very sensitive and can often feel spirits and she wondered if there was a spirit in the basement.  She also told me that she can sense and sometimes see spirits.  Now I do have to say that I do believe in spirits but I wasn’t so sure there was one in my basement.  In any case this women went downstairs and said she could definitely feel the spirit.  She said it was a male but it was not evil.  She (and a bunch of other people) told me I needed to go buy some white sage, open the doors, light the sage and ask the spirit (calmly but firmly) to leave.  They also said it did not hurt if you said the Lord’s Prayer and had hymns playing while doing this.  There is a local store that sells white sage so I bought some.  Then I found a YouTube video of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir singing the Messiah.  I played the video while walking around the basement with the burning sage.  I  had to do this for 3 days.  Now Rob, my husband, would come home from work and just roll his eyes at me.  I figured it couldn’t hurt.  All I knew was that Emma was afraid of something in the basement.

The next week, the woman who can sense spirits came back and said the spirit was gone.  No one told Emma this though.  She still refused to come down to the basement and would still go right to the bathroom and lay down as soon as I opened the door.

Well guess what!  I was down in the basement today and Emma came down.   She ran right back up though.  Ten minutes later she came down again and lay by the stairs.  Fifteen minutes after that, I looked down and here she is in her bed!

Happy Watercolor is a stamp set that is in the Occasions Catalog and is not being carried over to the new Annual Catalog.  I am very sad about this because I really like this set.  I made this simple and easy one layer card using it.  I love the sentiment that says “you make me happy”.  One layer cards are so easy and great to make when you are in a hurry.  I think some of them are as pretty as cards with lots of layers.  You can impress your friends with a homemade card and they don’t need to know it only took you 5 minutes or less to make.  You can still purchase this set until June 1st when that catalog retires.

Emma, you make me happy!

Starburst Sayings Meets Modern Medley

Starburst Sayings, Modern Medley

Starburst Sayings is a stamp set in the Occasions Catalog.  It has a matching set of Framelits called Starburst.  If you purchase both in a Bundle you can save 15%.  One of the nice things about this set is that it is going to carry over into the new Annual Catalog that starts June 2nd!  Although it is in the new catalog it will not have a Bundle Price so if you like this set you should buy it before the Occasions Catalog expires on June 1st.  Actually all the Bundles in the Occasions Catalog will expire on this date.  Some of the stamp sets and Framelits will be carried over but again, the bundle pricing will not.

The background for this card is Designer Series Paper called Modern Medley.  This paper will not carry over into the new catalog (as most Designer Series Paper does not).

Chevron Border Punch Background Tutorial

Chevron Border Punch, Starburst SayingsYesterday I showed you this card I made the background using the Chevron Border Punch.  The background is actually two pieces and are attached under the 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon. I promised you a tutorial on how to make it. So here goes.

There is a small mark on the edge of the punch as seen in this picture (actually there are two but for the purposes of this tutorial you only use the first one).  It shows the beginning of where it punches.

Chevron Border Punch

Line up the edge of your 2 1/4″ x 5.25″ cardstock to this edge and punch as you normally would going all the way to the end of your cardstock.

Chevron Border PunchYour cardstock should look like this:

DSC02099Then flip the cardstock, line up the edge on that mark again and punch all the way to the end.

DSC02100Your cardstock will now look like this:

DSC02101Then punch a 1.4″ x 5.25″ piece of cardstock all the way across.  Snail them together on a 4 x 5.25″ piece of cardstock (I used So Saffron) and cover seam with the ribbon.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial!

Fun With The Chevron Punch

Chevron Border Punch, Starburst Sayings

Today is my oldest son, David’s birthday.  He is 34 year old!  I know.  How can I possibly have a son that old?  I ask myself that everyday.   It really doesn’t seem that long ago when he was born.  Where did the time go?

I made this birthday card for him because it was such a happy day when he was born.  I love the Chevron Border Punch that is in the Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog.  I am am so happy that it is carrying over into the new Annual Catalog that comes out June 1st.  You can make some great borders with this punch or you can use the pieces it cuts out too.  This card shows another fun way to use the punch.  See how the double chevrons on the right are all one piece?  I made that using this punch.  Tomorrow I am going to post a tutorial on how I made it so make sure you come back to see.

I also used the stamp set called Starburst Sayings on this card.  This set has a matching set of Framelits and you can buy both in a Bundle and save 15%!

Stayed tuned tomorrow for my tutorial on how to make this chevron background!

Simple Wreath Card

DSC02084I made this card using the leaves from the Bird Builder Punch.  I think that leaf is my favorite part about that punch.  It makes a whole branch of little leaves that can be used a lot.  Of course, I used it to make the actual wreath.  The little flowers came from the Itty Bitty Shapes Punch Pack.  There is a set of three punches in this pack.  Unfortunately, it is retiring at the end of this catalog (or until it sells out, whichever comes first) so if you like it, you should order it before it disappears forever.  The sentiment I used is also part of a stamp set that is retiring called Sweet Essentials.  There are 8 great greetings in this stamp set, so again, if you like it you should order it before it sells out.

Lovely As A Tree

Lovely As A Tree

I am so happy that the stamp set called Lovely As A Tree was not retired!  It has broken all records of any stamp set that has been in the catalog.  I think it first showed up in the 2001/2002 came out and I am glad it is sticking around.  Even Shelli Garnder, the CEO of Stampin’ Up! said she hopes it will never retire.  The one sad thing about this card is the sentiment is from Oh, Hello and that is retiring at the end of this catalog year.  I really love the sentiments in that set so I will be sad to see it go.  Actually, I am not sure why I am sad about it because I own it!  The background of this card was made using the background stamp called Hardwood.  This stamp is in the Occasions Catalog and I am hoping it will go into the annual catalog too!
