It is hard to believe it is Friday again so soon. I am not sure where all the time goes but it sure flies! Friday is always my favorite day of the week because it is when Buffy, Jackie and I do our Stamp Off Challenges.
This week Buffy gave us a New Year’s theme challenge.
I actually had a hard time with this one. I don’t really have any stamp sets that say Happy New Year but then I remembered that you can use other sayings to celebrate the holiday.
The “happy” came from a set of Thinlits called Hello You and the numbers are a must have set of Framelits called Large Numbers. Everyone needs that set because it can be used for so many occasions (graduations, anniversaries, birthdays, etc.). The “let’s celebrate” and the banner are a stamp from a set that will be in the 2017 Occasions Catalog called Balloon Adventures. It is such a fun set. Of course, you have to have some sparkle on New Years so I used the Blushing Bride Glimmer Paper.
Now let’s go check out what Buffy and Jackie did with this challenge. I am sure their creations will be awesome, as usual!
I love shaker cards and they just happen to be all the rage right now. They are not hard to make at all and I think it is so much fun to get a card in the mail, especially when it is something different such as a shaker card.
I used the set of Thinlits in the Holiday Catalog called Detailed Santa. It is a set of four dies. Two of them are border dies which are fun to use too (even though I didn’t use them on this card). These dies have a matching stamp set called Greetings From Santa and you can save 10% by purchasing both in a Bundle.
Madelyn and her family came to see us this weekend. Every time I see her, she amazes me how much she has grown and how much she has learned. We decided to take her to the Mall to see Santa. Madelyn wanted nothing to do with him and ran away as soon as he looked at her. So Daddy had to sit with Santa in order for Madelyn to go anywhere near him. She was still pretty skeptical about some crazy white bearded man in a red suit. She has quite a look on her face!
I haven’t used my Swirly Bird Stamp Set or Swirly Scribbles Thinlits in a while so I thought I would bring them back out. They are such fun to play with that it reminded me of how much I like this bundle. Who doesn’t like scribbles, flowers, birds, kites, sailboats and splatters? It has everything you could want!
First I decided to use a couple of the new In Colors for this card called Dapper Denim and Emerald Envy. Then I cut the scribble out using our Silver Foil Paper to add a little shine to the card. The “thanks” is from the Hello You Thinlits.
Here is a picture of Madelyn at the big pool for the first time.
I think one of my most favorites thing in the 2-16/2017 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog is the Detailed Floral Thinlits Dies. I think they are so elegant and can be used for any card theme. The best part is they are so easy to cut out if you use the Precision Plate and the new Big Shot Platform. This new Platform has a curve in the middle so it presses the die a little harder. It will come with any new Big Shot purchase from Stampin’ Up! from now on and you can also just buy the platform by itself is you already own a Big Shot.
The ‘happy” is cut using the Hello You Thinlits. Although you can not see it in this picture, I used Clear Wink Of Stella over the word to add a little sparkle to it. The sentiment is from the stamp set called Crazy About You.
Here is another card I made using a technique from the Watercoloring for Card Makers Class I took. It is a very simple technique and did not take a lot of time. I took the Clear Block H from Stampin’ Up! and just pressed an edge on one of the flat sides of the block into an ink pad. Then I lightly spritzed it with water and stamped it by dragging it just a bit on Watercolor Paper. I did that for all four colors (Melon Mambo, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight and Tempting Turquoise).
The word “thanks” is from Hello You Thinlits. Thankfully this set of Thinlits is not retiring and will be in the next catalog. The best way to glue one of these words to your cardstock is to use the Fine Tip Glue Pen. It just lets a little glue out so you don’t get it all over the place. The only bad thing about it, is you have to have really good eyes to put that top back on!
Flowering Flourishes is another stamp set that is going to retire at the end of May. It has been around for a while and I actually forgot about it but I always liked using it because it makes such a nice background. One of the flower punches I used on this card is also retiring. It is from the punch set called Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack. It one of those punch sets that I will miss a lot. It has the little flower, a heart and a star punch. Luckily the other two items I used for this card are staying. The ‘hello” is from Hello You Thinlits and the larger flower punch is called Petite Petals.
As a reminder if there is something on the retirement list you want, make sure you order it quickly before it is gone for good. Stamps sets will be available until May 22 but all other accessories will be gone for good once they run out.
This started out as a quick and easy birthday card but ended up a bit more complicated than I thought. I wanted to use the Hello You Thinlits but instead of just cutting it out of Calypso Coral cardstock, I wanted to inlay it by cutting it out of the Whisper White cardstock. So I did that but it looked funny because the letters were not filled in. So, I used the new Fine Tip Glue Pen to fill in all the little pieces of all the letters. By the time that was done, I realized I should have just cut it out with the Calypso Coral and used the Fine Tip Glue Pen to add it to the Whisper White. Ok so if you are still reading this, then you should get a medal!
The birthday stamp is from Endless Birthday Wishes and the polka dots are from Dotty Angles.
This is one big thanks for all my wonderful birthday wishes! My birthday was awesome and lots of fun. Of course, I am not sure I ever had a bad birthday. I guess I am lucky that way.
I just realized that this card has absolutely no stamping! First I made a mask using a piece of regular copy paper. I cut out the rectangle using one of the square from the Squares Collection Framelits. I cut the first one out of the middle and then cut it again a little to the left and then a little to the right to make the rectangle. Then I lay the copy paper over a piece of Whisper White cardstock and sponged from left to right using Soft Sky, Pool Party and Bermuda Bay inks. Then I used an embossing folder called Chevron. The thanks is from Hello You Thinlits.
Thanks again to my friends and family for an awesome birthday!
Today is my baby’s birthday! Zachary is turning 28! I can’t believe how fast that happened. It didn’t seem that long ago that he was the same age as Madelyn. I am not sure where time goes but it is true what they say. It flies!
I am so proud of Zachary. Six years ago I cried when he told me he had joined the Air Force. Turns out it was the best thing that ever happened to him. He became an Air Traffic Controller. He went places that scared me to death, but he did an awesome job. Now he has left the Air Force and is going to go work for the FAA. Although I know I would still cry if he started all over again, I also know he is an awesome young man because of his service in the military.
Happy Birthday, Zachary. You are as wonderful as I knew you would be the day you were born. I love you!
Here is a quick and easy card to make if you don’t have a lot of time. To make the background, all I did was use an Aqua Painter with a Bermuda Bay, Coastal Cabana and Soft Sky ink refill. I made the frame using the Deco Label Framelits and the “hello” is from the Hello You Thinlits that in the 2015 Occasions Catalog. The great news is that all of these products are being carried over into the 2015 Annual Catalog!
Don’t forget you only have a couple more days to order from the 2015 Occasions Catalog and the 2014 Annual Catalog. If you want anything from there that is retiring, you will need to order by June 2nd or it may be gone forever!
