Use That Designer Series Paper!

When the 2020 Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog came out I fell in love with a lot of the Designer Series Paper.  I mean, who could resist?  It was all gorgeous.  Then when the 2021 Holiday Mini Catalog came out.  I loved a lot of the DSP in that catalog.  Once again, when the January – June Mini Catalog came out, I had to have even more.  I made a vow to start using all my Designer Series Paper more than I usually do.  I hate cutting that first piece.  I keep thinking if I cut a piece out now, what will happen if I need a whole sheet later?  It is a crazy way to think but most stampers have a little craziness in them anyway.

Of course now that all the DSP I purchased is retiring very soon and I still had a lot left over.  So I decided I was going to use a lot of it in the next two weeks.  A lot of it!  I made these three simple cards the other day.  It was a good start.

Stampin Up Designer Series Paper I used the Hydrangea Hill Designer Series Paper for this first card.  It is so beautiful and even nicer in person.  I first took a card base of Gorgeous Grape cardstock, folded it in half and cut an inch off on side.  I layered a piece of the DSP on the inside of the card and another piece on the outside.  I stamped the sentiment (which is from an old Paper Pumpkin kit because I didn’t have a Happy Mother’s Day stamp.  Can you believe that??) in Gorgeous Grape Ink and then colored the flowers and leaves using a Seaside Spray and Old Olive Stampin Blends.  Then I cut it out using the Layering Ovals (also retiring on May 3rd).  I cut a larger oval out of Gorgeous Grape cardstock and the larger scalloped oval out of Purple Posy.

For this next card I used Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper Series Paper.  I layered a 4″ x 5.25″ piece over a card base of Pool Party.  I used the Floral Gallery die to cut “just wanted to say” in So Saffron card stock and I stamped the sentiment from the coordinating stamp set in Night Of Navy ink and cut it out using another die from Floral Gallery.  The DSP speaks for itself on this card so I didn’t think it needed much more.

I also used the Fine Art Floral Designer Series Paper for this last card.  I cut two 1″ strips of the flowers and adhered them to the sides of a Basic White card base.  I then added the Pumpkin Pie piece of DSP in the middle.  The fern is from Forever Gold Laser-Cut Specialty Paper.  These cut outs are gold on one side and white on the other.  They are beautiful.  They are also retiring.  Sigh.  So many beautiful papers are retiring.  I stamped the sentiment from Many Messages and cut it out using the coordinating die Messages.  The stamp is one big stamp and so is the die.

Do you have a lot of Designer Series Paper that you are afraid to cut?  You need to just do it.  It is beautiful and it makes gorgeous, easy cards.

Art Gallery

Hello everyone.  It is time for another Stamp Off Challenge.  This time our challenge was to make a “get well” or “thinking of you” card.  I chose to use the Art Gallery Stamp set with the coordinating Floral Gallery Dies.

Stampin Up Art Gallery

One of the reasons I love this stamp set is because it has a lot of very useful sentiments.  Besides the one I used, it also has happy birthday, thank you, I miss you, congratulations, sorry, best wishes and you are lovely.  There is a sentiment for just about everything.

I stamped the flowers in this set a little differently.  The flowers in this set are two step stamps.  This means it takes two or more stamps to make an image.  I did not use the main background stamp on my flowers.  Instead I used the stamp that highlights the flowers using Blushing Bride ink.  Then I took my Blushing Bride Stampin Write Marker and lightly put strokes of color over the top using the side of the marker and not the tip.  I like how there is a lot of white space on the flowers.  I stamped the leaves using Granny Apple Green ink and then cut everything out using the coordinating dies.

I layered the flowers over a Basic White and Smoky Slate oval using the Layering Oval Dies.  As a side note, these dies are retiring on May 3rd or as long as supplies last.  These are a definite must have set of dies.  There are eight different sized ovals and seven scalloped ovals.  I placed everything on top of a piece of Basic White cardstock that I embossed using the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder.

The sentiment from the Art Gallery stamp set I used really says “I’m thinking of you”.  It is rare that I would send a sympathy or thinking of you card without saying it was from Rob and me so I masked the word I’m using Washi Tape, inked the stamp in Smoky Slate, pulled off the Washi Tape (that part is very important or you will get a big blob of ink on your card stock) and then stamped it. I cut it out using one of the dies in the Floral Gallery set.   Lastly I added some Pastel Pearls.

Now, let’s go see what Jackie and Buffy made.  They make the most beautiful cards.

Prized Peony Fun Fold

Stampin Up Prized Peony

This is a quick and easy fun fold card I made using the stamp set called Prized Peony.  This stamp set is in the 2020/2021 Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog.  It has coordinating dies called Peony Dies and you can save 10% by purchasing them in a Bundle.

To make this card you will need the following cardstock:

4.25″ x 11″ card base scored at 5.5 inches and 6.75 inches (I used Gray Granite)

1″ x 4″ Basic White cardstock

(2) 4″ x 4″ Basic White cardstock (one for the inside and one for the outside)

7/8″ x 3 7/8″ piece of DSP (I used Peony Garden)

3 7/8″ x 3 7/8″ piece of DSP (I used Peony Garden)

To make this card I first took a piece of 4.25″ x 11″  Gray Granite cardstock and scored it a 5.5″ and then again at 6.75″.  Then I used Tear & Tape to adhere the small 1.25″ section to the back so it opened like this:

Stampin Up Prized Peony

After that I took the Classic Label Punch and just punched out a notch on the top and bottom section.  I attached a 4″ x 4″ piece of Whisper White cardstock to the right part of the card and a 1″ x 4″ piece on the left side of the card and then adhered the appropriate size of Designer Series Paper to each side.  I wrapped a piece of retired ribbon around the card so that it was inside the notches and tied a knot.

After this I stamped the Peony flower on a piece of Basic White cardstock in Petal Pink ink and stamped the sentiment from the stamp set called Band Together in Gray Granite ink on top of the flower.  Then I cut it out using the Layering Ovals Dies.  I used a large oval die to cut out a piece of Petal Pink cardstock and the scalloped die in Gray Granite cardstock and layered them all together.

Whiskey Business

Stampin Up Whiskey Business

Whiskey Business is a new stamp set that is in the 2020/2021 Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog.  It is a perfect stamp set to use for a masculine card which we all know is hard to do.  Stampin’ Up!® has always had some good stamp sets for this purpose and I usually buy most of them because they are perfect.

To make this card I first stamped the glass and decanter in Early Espresso ink and cut them out using my Paper Snips.  I am not a very good fussy cutter (what they call cutting things out by hand in the card making business) but these were easy to do since they are mostly straight lines.  Stampin’ Up!® Paper Snips work really well because they are small and have a very sharp point.  Then I colored them using my Cinnamon Cider Stampin Blends.

I took a piece of In Good Taste Designer Series Paper and cut it out using the Layered Ovals Dies.  Then I cut off one end of it to make it look like a table.  Lastly I stamped the sentiment in Cinnamon Cider ink and cut that out using a die from the Tasteful Labels Die set.  I attached the glass, decanter and sentiment using a Stampin Dimensionals to give it a little depth.

Dino Days Fun Fold

This is one of the cards we made at our monthly stamp class.  It is a fun fold card because when you open it, only the bottom half opens.

First of all, some of you with eagle eyes will notice that I adhered the piece of Dinosaur Designer Series Paper upside down.  Do you think if I send this to a grandchild they will notice?  Probably not until an adult tells them.  When I showed my ladies this card, I said “do as I say and not as I do”. I think my parents used to say that to me.

This fun fold is super easy to make.  You take a piece of 4.25″ x 5.5″ cardstock to use as the base.  I used Pool Party for this.  Then you cut a 2.75″ x 8.5″ piece of cardstock (Pineapple Punch), fold it in half and adhere one half of it to the Pool Party base.  Then you layer a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Dinosaur Designer Series Paper over the Pineapple Punch piece.  I then layered a 2.5″ x 3.75″ piece of Whisper White over this to write your message on but I am not sure I would do that again.  I think you could write on the back or on the folded piece instead.

I stamped the dinosaur in Pineapple Punch ink and cut it out using the matching Dino Dies and Iayered that on top of a Whisper White oval I cut out using the Layering Oval Dies and a larger oval in Pineapple Punch.   I stamped the bubbles and the sentiment from Itty Bitty Birthdays in Old Olive ink

Vibrant & Varied Vases

This is the birthday card I made for my friend, Debby.  Her birthday is tomorrow but she should have gotten the card already.  I am always early in life.  I arrive early places and I mail things early.  Sometimes I have to drive around the block 30 times because I am way to early to arrive somewhere.

In any case, the colors I used for this card are Daffodil Delight, Pretty Peacock and Gray Granite.  It is kind of a strange combination but I think it works.  I used three different stamp sets to make this card.  The flower vase is from Varied Vases but the flowers are from Vibrant Vases.  Both stamp sets have a matching punch called Vases Builder.  I love it when Stampin’ Up!® makes products you can mix and match.

I first stamped the vase in Pretty Peacock.  This is a new InColor and is gorgeous!  Next I stamped the outline of the flowers in Gray Granite and then colored them using my Daffodil Delight and Poppy Parade Stampin’ Blends.  I cut this image out using the Layering Ovals Dies and layered it on a piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock that I had also cut out using the Layering Ovals Dies.  The sentiment is from Itty Bitty Birthdays.  I just stamped it in Pretty Peacock on a leftover piece of Whisper White cardstock and cut the ends out by hand.  You need to save all those little pieces you cut off for things like this.

I layered it on a piece of  6″ x 6″ Designer Series Paper in Daffodil Delight,  I love the plaids in this pack of paper.

Happy Birthday, Debby.  I hope you have a great day tomorrow!

Daisy Lane

I have seen a lot of photographs, cards and pictures online using a colored background with a pop of white.  I love this look and decided to create a card using it.  Actually, in the coming weeks you are probably going to see a lot of cards using this idea (I am just warning you ahead of time).

To make this card I first took a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Gray Granite cardstock and ran it through my die cutting machine using the Subtle 3D embossing Folder..  I love how this folder adds a little texture to the background of a card.  I layered this onto a card base of Gray Granite.  Next I cut the oval frame using two of the Layering Ovals dies in Whisper White cardstock and one in Gray Granite using the larger Oval.  If you look closely you will see that the middle section inside the Oval frame is not embossed.  I punched out the leaves using the Leaf Punch also using the Whisper White cardstock.  I stamped two of the smaller daisies from Daisy Lane using So Saffron Ink and punched them out using the Medium Daisy Punch (you can save 10% by purchasing that stamp set and punch in a Bundle).  I put everything together and then stamped the sentiment from Itty Bitty Birthdays in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

A Fun Fold Challenge

Hello everyone!  Today we have a new challenge from BS & J Productions.  It is a Fun Fold Challenge.  I love Fun Folds!  When you open the envelope you expect it to be a regular card but then it becomes more of a surprise.

I decided to make a Dutch Door Fun Fold card.  It was super easy to make and did not take a long time.  The hardest part is deciding what stamps, colors and Designer Series Paper to use.  I chose the stamp set called Sailing Home.  This stamp set has matching dies called Smooth Sailing and you can save 10% by purchasing them in a Bundle.  The Designer Series Paper is part of the same Suite and is called Come Sail Away.  The colors I used for this card are Night Of Navy, Seaside Spray and Whisper White.

Here is what the card looks like when it is opened.  I decided not to put a sentiment on it so I can decide later who and why I want to send it to.

Here are the cardstock pieces you will need to make this card:

To make this fun fold card, adhere the piece of Seaside Spray cardstock to the piece Night of Navy card base like this:

Then layer the piece of Designer Series Paper on top like this:

Then decorate however you wish.  For a full list of products I used, see below.

Now let’s go see what Jackie and Buffy made.  I know I will want to CASE (Copy And Share Everything) both of their fun folds!

It is Bonus Days.  For every $50 you spend during the month of July you earn a $5 coupon towards your August purchases.  There is no limit as to how many coupons you can earn!

Here’s A Card

Here’s A Card is a new stamp set that is in the Stampin’ Up!® 2019/2020 Annual Catalog.  It is a sentiment only stamp set that has sentiments for the outside and inside of your cards.  I love the different fonts it uses because they are simple and elegant.

To make this card I first cut a strip of the new Noble Peacock Specialty Designer Series Paper in the Blueberry Bushel Color.  This DSP is amazing.  It is bright and shiny and comes in great patterns.  I also cut two small strips from the Noble Peacock Foil Sheets in Old Olive and put them on either side of the first strip I cut.  You can mix and match both of these packs of paper because they use the same colors.  The Specialty paper has a pattern and the Foil Sheets are plain.

Then I stamped the sentiment in Blueberry Bushel ink and cut it out using the Stitched Shapes Dies.  I layered that with an oval cut using the Layering Ovals Dies and an Old Olive Foil Sheet.  Lastly I cut the leaves out using the Animal Friends Dies.

Last week my son, Sam and his wife, Tara, and two of my grandchildren Madelyn and Nolan  spent a week with us at the cottage.  We had so much fun.  We spent a lot of time in the water swimming, boating and jet skiing but also took a day and went to Old McDonald’s Farm and Boldt Castle.  Here are some pictures to share with you.

Birthday Cheer

A couple of weeks ago I showed you how to make quick and easy cards in five minutes that anyone would appreciate giving.  I decided after doing that series I would make a couple of cards for the more advanced stamper who has more time and more supplies.  Stampin’ Up!® calls them Avid Stampers.  These are people who have to own everything and do a lot of stamping.  I call them obsessive stampers!  I can call them that because I am one of them.  Whenever a new catalog comes out, I have to hold myself back from buying everything at once. It is a tough thing to do!

To make this card I used a new stamp set from the 2019 Occasions Catalog called Birthday Cheer.  This stamp set has some awesome dies called Detailed Birthday Edgelits.  You can save 10% by purchasing them in a Bundle.  One of the dies in this Bundle cuts out the gifts at the bottom of my card all at once.  I just think this die is adorable.  Another one in the set cuts out an edge of cupcakes which is just as cute.

The colors I used for this card are Lemon Lime Twist (oh I am going to miss this one so much when it retires in May!!), Balmy Blue and Blueberry Bushel.  I cut out the presents die in both Blueberry Bushel and Balmy Blue.  I attached the Blueberry one to the piece of Lemon Lime cardstock and then filled in the various pieces from the Balmy Blue piece.  I stamped the sentiment and cut it out using the Layering Ovals Framelits Dies.

Don’t forget it is Sale-a-bration time! Earn FREE merchandise with a qualifying purchase.  Get an extra $25 in Hostess Benefits with a $250 single or group order! Join my Stampin Up! family and get a $175 worth of products for $99  or get the Carry & Craft Tote and $175 worth of products for $129!
