Beautiful You

Beautiful You is a stamp set that is in the 2017/2018 Annual Catalog and is being carried over into the new Annual Catalog that starts on June 1st.  It is a very versatile set because it can be used for just about any occasion from birthdays to sympathy.  It is a great set to use alone with Black Tuxedo Memento Ink as I did with this card or you can color it with your Stampin’ Blends or Markers.

A couple of the products I used on this card are retiring.  The sentiment was cut out using a dies from the Rose Garden Thinlits.  These Thinlits will be gone beginning June 1st when the new Annual Catalog comes out.  The Designer Series Paper is called Fresh Florals, and unfortunately, this paper is already sold out.  This happens a lot when the Retirement List comes out in April.  Don’t be too sad though.  You are going to love the new Designer Series Paper that will be available in a couple of days!

As a little side note (yes, my mind does often wander to other subjects), I live in Northern New York.  They say we have two seasons up here:  Winter and July.  It is mostly true although we do get an occasional nice day in the Spring or Fall.  One of my most favorite days is the day I realize all the leaves on the trees have opened up and the world is full of this beautiful green color.  It is the color of new leaves.  It is a little darker than Lemon Lime Twist but lighter than Old Olive (maybe I should suggest this color to Stampin’ Up!  Wait.  Granny Apple Green is pretty close!  ).  To me, it is my favorite day of the year.  It says, the cold, no, the freezing cold winter is over and Mother Nature is celebrating.  It doesn’t last long so you have be quick.  I was driving back to the cottage today and realized today is the day!  Today the trees are a perfect green!  So, if you live near me, go outside and look at the trees and fall in love with Mother Nature once again (and then go back inside an order the retiring products you love before it is too late!).

Sometimes Life Happens

Flourish Thinlits. Flourishing Phrases, Sympathy Card, Stampin Up, susanstamps.wordpress.com

A couple of weeks ago my 88 year old mother in law was having trouble breathing so we took her to the emergency room.  After about 10 days in the hospital, she passed away peacefully in her sleep.  Although it is very sad, we are grateful that she did not suffer a lot and is now reunited with my father in law and her parents.  I guess if anything good can come out of such an event, it brings families and friends who live far away together again.  My kids came home and I got to see Madelyn again.  My local friends brought us food, cards and flowers.  It always amazes me how wonderful people can be in a stressful and sad time and I appreciate each and every one of them.  We will all miss my mother in law but we are so thankful for every one who helped us through this difficult time. Blog Signature-001 Product List

Buffy’s Color Challenge

Buffy has a group of demonstrators that meet once a month to do projects.  She was so kind to invite me to the online portion of her group because I don’t really have an active Upline.  She gave this group of ladies a color challenge  to do.  It was to use Watermelon Wonder, Cucumber Crush and Dapper Denim.  Here is the card I made using these colors.

Mixed Borders, Swirly Scribbles

I used a new set from the 2016/2017 called Mixed Borders.  It is such a fun stamp set because it has a few border stamp sets that have a space in-between them where you can fit a sentiment.  To make the border above I stamped two of them.  One is a flower border and the other one is a leaf border.  Under the sentiment is a blank spot where I could have stamped “I hope your birthday is amazing” but I chose to put it on a tag.  By the way, the tag is from the stamp set called Rose Wonder that has a matching set of Framelits called Rose Garden Thinlits.  Then I added the swirl from Swirly Scribbles.

Rose Garden Sympathy Card

Rose Garden, Rose Wonder

No one likes to make sympathy cards but, unfortunately it is a necessary part of life.  I made this card to keep on hand but found out today that I will be sending it out.  It uses the set of Thinlits called Rose Garden and is in the 2016 Occasions Catalog.  Thankfully, it will also be in the new Annual Catalog that comes out in June.  This set of Thinlits has a matching set of stamps called Rose Garden, which will also be carried over.  If you like both of them you can save 15% by buying the Bundle.  This Bundle will no longer be available in the new catalog.

The only thing that is going to retire on this card is the Calypso Coral Seam Binding Ribbon.  All the Seam Binding ribbons are retiring so if you like them, you need to order them before they are gone for good.

Helping Me Grow

Helping Me Grow

Helping me grow is an overlooked stamp set that is in the 2016 Occasions Catalog.  It is an awesome set to color with and it has 15 stamps in the set.  You can use Stampin Write Markers, Blender Pens or Aqua Painters to color  I used Blender Pens on this card.  All you need to do is squeeze your ink pad when it is closed so that you get ink on inside of the lid (I used Calypso Coral, Blushing Bride and Garden Green).  Then you dip your Blender Pen in that ink and color.  It is so easy to do.  When you are done with one color just rub your Blender Pen on some scrap paper until it is clear and move on to the next color.  Let me tell you, those Blender Pens last for years.  I think mine have to be at least five years old if not older.  It comes in a pack of three and each pen has a tip on both sides so it is like getting 6 pens.

You’ve Got This

You've Got This

CASEing means to Copy and Share Everything and Stampin’ Up! encourages people to do this.  This is why stampers blog because the point of blogging your cards is to share your creations.  I often see a card I like and want to recreate it using my supplies, colors, etc.  By the time I am done, it looks like a totally different card.  It is good to get ideas from other stampers, especially when I am having a bad mojo day and everything I make ends up in the garbage (yes, this happens quite often).  If you do copy a card exactly, proper etiquette is you should give credit to that person (if you know who it is).  If you don’t know, then it is ok to say, you saw this card somewhere online.

I saw a card on Pinterest using Rectangles to frame a sentiment and thought it was a fun idea.  I don’t have rectangle Framelits but thought I could use the Circles or Ovals Collections Framelits I own.  Then I decided not to put the sentiment in the middle but instead a flower.  The shape of this flower from You’ve Got This stamp set is long so I used the Ovals.  I ended up cutting the flower out but I don’t really think this was necessary.  I could have just stamped it on the Whisper White cardstock.

In any case, feel free to CASE me anytime.  I think it is a compliment!

Rose Garden Fancy Fold

Rose Wonder, Drapery Fold

This is one of the cards we made at our monthly Club Meeting.  It uses a new set of Thinlits Dies called Rose Garden.  These dies are just beautiful.  They have a matching set of stamps called Rose Wonder.  If you buy them both in a bundle you can save 15%.

This card also uses a fun fold called the Drapery Fold.  I got this idea from Lyssa Zwolanek.  She is another Stampin’ Up! demonstrator.  Honestly, I am not sure if she made it up or if she got the idea from someone else because I did see some other cards using this technique.  That is how it goes with card making.  It is called CASEing which means Create and Share Everything.  To make the background, you take a 4″ by 11.5″ piece of Designer Series Paper and score it at 3″, 4″, 6″, 7″, 9″, and 10″.  Then cut a diagonal line starting at the 3″ score line up to about 1″ from the top.

Here is a picture of what your Designer Series Paper should look like after you score and cut it.

Then you fold at the score alternating mountain and valley fold like this:

Then I used snail to tack it down.  It is very easy to do!

Rose Wonder

Rose Wonder, Rose Garden Thinlits

The 2016 Occasions Catalog has so many awesome products in it that are new and fun.  One of the stamp sets that I really like is called Rose Wonder.  It is a Photopolymer stamp set that has 14 images and sentiments with it.  It also has a matching set of Thinlits called Rose Garden.  You can save 15% by buying them both in a bundle.

For this card, I cut out one of the Thinlits with Blackberrry Bliss cardstock and again, with Bushing Bride cardstock.  Then I pretended it was a jigsaw puzzle and put the pieces of the Blushing Bridge cardstock into the Blackberry Bliss.  The Rose Garden Thinlits also include the shape you see around the sentiment.
