Whiskey Business

Stampin Up Whiskey Business

I had to make a birthday for a friend of mine who happens to be a man and loves to drink a high-end whiskey.  Being the brilliant person I am, what better stamp set to use than the Stampin’ Up!® Whiskey Business stamp set?  I am a genius, right?

To make this card I first stamped the whiskey decanter and the glass in Memento Black ink.  Then I used some Stampin Blends in Soft Suede and Daffodil Delight to color the whiskey.  Whiskey Business does not have coordinating dies so I had to fussy cut them out.  You know I am not much of a fussy cutter, but the lines on these stamps are fairly straight so it was not too hard to do.  Next, I ran a Basic White card base through my Cut & Emboss machine using the Bricks and Mortar 3D embossing folder.   I cut a piece of Design A Daydream Designer Series Paper using a die from Basic Borders and adhered that to the card.  I thought it looked like a table with an old-fashioned tablecloth.  You know.  Those plastic ones your mother used to use.  I stamped the sentiment in Memento Black ink onto a piece of Soft Suede card stock and cut off the end at an angle.  I adhered the sentiment strip, the whisky decanter and the glass using Dimensionals.

If you need to make a masculine card, Stampin’ Up!® has some great stamp sets you can use.  Whiskey Business is one of my favorites since most of the men in my life love whiskey.  Of course, you could not color it in and say it is Vodka or Rum if that fits better.  My grandmother always had a decanter of water next to her bed that looked just like the one in the stamp set, so that would work too.

Geared Up Garage

Stampin Up Geared Up Garage

Geared Up Garage is a perfect stamp set to use for a masculine card.  It has coordinating dies called Garage Gears which cut out all the shapes in the stamp set plus it also cuts out all kinds of gears in different sizes.  Sadly, this stamp and die set is retiring on May 2nd.  Actually the stamp set will be available until May 2nd but if the dies sell out prior to that, then they are gone for good.

To make this card I decided to use the Designer Series Paper called Well Suited which is in the 2021 January – June Mini Catalog.  This DSP, which is also retiring, is also perfect for making masculine cards.  I had some leftover pieces of this DSP so I layered a couple of them so they would form a point.  I adhered them to a Smoky Slate card base and then cut off the excess with paper snips.  I cut out the gears using the Garage Gears Dies.  I wanted to cover the holes in the gears so I punched out a bunch of different sized circles and adhered them to the back of the gears.  As a side note, I need to tell you that ALL the circle punches in the catalog are retiring on May 2nd too.  All of them.  These will sell out quickly so I suggest purchasing them before they do because once they are gone, they are gone for good.  It is so easier to use a punch to cut out a circle than dies so everyone needs them.

After I cut out the dies, I stamped the car in Memento Black Ink and colored it using a Dark Cherry Cobbler Blends.  I cut it out using the coordinating die and adhered it over the gears using Dimensionals.  Lastly I stamped the sentiment on a leftover piece of Basic White card stock.

Stampin Up Whiskey Business

Whiskey Business is a new stamp set that is in the 2020/2021 Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog.  It is a perfect stamp set to use for a masculine card which we all know is hard to do.  Stampin’ Up!® has always had some good stamp sets for this purpose and I usually buy most of them because they are perfect.

To make this card I first stamped the glass and decanter in Early Espresso ink and cut them out using my Paper Snips.  I am not a very good fussy cutter (what they call cutting things out by hand in the card making business) but these were easy to do since they are mostly straight lines.  Stampin’ Up!® Paper Snips work really well because they are small and have a very sharp point.  Then I colored them using my Cinnamon Cider Stampin Blends.

I took a piece of In Good Taste Designer Series Paper and cut it out using the Layered Ovals Dies.  Then I cut off one end of it to make it look like a table.  Lastly I stamped the sentiment in Cinnamon Cider ink and cut that out using a die from the Tasteful Labels Die set.  I attached the glass, decanter and sentiment using a Stampin Dimensionals to give it a little depth.

Geared Up Garage

Here is a fun, bright and shiny birthday card using the stamp set called Geared Up Garage.  This stamp set is in the 2019 Stampin’ Up!® Occasions Catalog.  It has a matching set of dies called Garage Gears and you can save 10% by purchasing them in a Bundle.  I love the little gears these dies cut out.  They are all different sizes and full of details.  This Bundle is perfect for making a masculine card for birthdays or Father’s Day.

To make this card I first cut out all the gears using Silver Foil Sheets.  Then I stamped the car in Memento Black Ink and cut it out using the matching die. I stamped the sentiment also in Memento Ink.  I layered all the pieces onto a piece of Basic Black cardstock and wrapped a piece of the Black/Silver 1/4″ Striped Metallic ribbon around it.  The ribbon is nice and sparkly while still being masculine.  I layered all of that onto a piece of the Silver Foil Sheets and then the Basic Black cardstock.

If you purchase the Geared Up Garage Bundle and the ribbon you will be eligible to get something from the Sale-a-bration Catalog for Free!!

Acorny Thank You

Acorny Thank You

This is a birthday card I made for a man.  Sometimes it is hard to come up with ideas for men.  The thing is, most men would probably prefer a card that will make them laugh in some way, but when you have a wife, mother, or friend who makes cards, you get a handmade one.  You can always write something funny on the inside to make them laugh (such as a pun using another name for an acorn.  I’ll just leave it at that and let your imagination run wild!).

The acorn comes from a stamp set called Acorny Thank You.  The problem with this name is there is not such word as Acorny.  My auto correct wants to change it to Corny every time.  Then I finally realized I can add this word to my computer dictionary.  Genius!

Anyway, the acorn has a matching punch called Acorn Builder.  The greeting is from Guy Greetings (appropriate).  The great thing about that set is you have a choice to buy it in wood mount, clear mount or Photopolymer.  The wood grain look to the background is from a background stamp called Hardwood.

By The Tide Thank You

By The Tide

I needed a thank you card for a man.  We all know how hard that is.  There are only so many sets you can use.  You can’t have ribbon or bows.  You can’t have buttons or bling.  It has to be “manly” colors.  It is a tough thing to do.

I decided to get my an old stamp set (but still current) called By The Tide.  Actually, I hope this set never retires.  I was sad when By The Seashore retired but at least we still had this one.  Of course, if you have been reading my blog for any length of time you will know that I am always sad when stamp sets retire.  The Designer Series Paper I used for this card is from the Neutrals Color Collection and the sentiment is from the stamp set called One Big Meaning.  Everyone should own this set.  It thanks people seven different ways.  It is all you ever need for thank you cards.

I went to visit Madelyn last weekend.  I hadn’t seen her for a little over a month.  I was so surprised at how much she has grown!  The best part is she has the greatest smile.  Rob and I picked her up at day care and when she saw us she had the biggest smile on her face.  It was awesome!

Sea Street Thank You

Sea Street, Hey You

Sometimes I get so caught up in the new catalogs and how much I love all the products, that I forget about the stamp sets in the Stampin Up! Annual Catalog.  I was looking through my sets and found the set I used on this card.  It is called Sea Street and is a perfect set to use for a masculine card or anyone who loves anything nautical.  It has a lobster, crab, star fish, an anchor and a school of fish.  I think it is really cute and I love the nautical flags that are included too.  It is usually the set I use when Rob needs a card for some reason.  He is a sailor so it is fitting.

Don’t forget it is Sale-a-bration time! Earn FREE merchandise with a qualifying purchase! Get an extra $25 in Hostess Benefits with a $300 workshop (or order)! Join my Stampin Up! family and get an extra $25 with your starter kit.

A Masculine Birthday Card

Starburst Sayings, Dude You're Welcome

Stampin’ Up! has a few different kits they offer in the Annual Catalog and the Holiday Catalog.  A couple of weeks ago I showed you some Christmas cards made with the kit called Watercolor Winter.  You can see the cards HERE.

In the Annual Catalog they have a kit for men called Dude, You’re Welcome.  I bought this kit for Rob and he has actually made a couple of cards with it.  You can see one of his cards HERE.  I made this card using one of the pieces of cardstock that comes in the Dude You’re Welcome Kit (Shhhh – don’t tell Rob).  It really have very nice cardstock in this kit.  It is heavy duty and has some great patterns.  I added the Happy Day stamp from the set called Starburst Sayings.  This set has matching Framelits called Starburst.  Then I added a few Candy Dots to the bottom right corner.

Sea Street Thank You Card

Sea Street, Four YouRob needed some thank you cards for work so I was trying to figure out how to make him some without looking too feminine.  I was actually surprised he asked me to make him some and not go out and buy something.  It was kind of nice!  In any case, this is the card I came up with.  Rob loves to sail so I thought I would make him something nautical.  Sea Street is a perfect stamp set to use.  I knew he wouldn’t really want an Octopus (or the crab, lobster or starfish) on the card because Lake Ontario doesn’t have any of those (thank goodness!) but I knew he would love the flags.  The rope stamp in this set also worked well.   The sentiment comes from the set Four You.Blog Signature-001
