Around The Bend

Stampin Up Around The Bend

Well, it has been quite an adjustment to leave Nashville and arrive in Northern New York.  Nashville temperatures were in the 80’s when we left.  Northern New York temperatures are in the 40’s, 50’s and 60’s.  Although that doesn’t seem really cold, it is when you are used to the 80’s.  Luckily we have lots of blankets and some heat in the cottage.  It takes a while for it to warm up, but it is better than nothing.  Oh, and there has been no snow (like it was last year when we arrived)!

I used the stamp set and dies called Around The Bend to make this card.  It is a fun stamp set with some bendy (yes, that is a word according to Google) images which the dies cut around.  If you look at my card you can see the Night Of Navy bendy line with the dots underneath it.  That is one stamp and then the die follows the bends and cuts out a scalloped edge around the dots.  There are also some extra dies in the set that cut out flowers, leaves and a big die that cuts out leaves for a corner.  I stamped the line and dots on a 5.25″ x 3.5″ piece of Basic White card stock and then cut it out.

After that I cut out a 5.25″ c 2.4″ piece of the Countryside Inn Designer Series Paper.  I adhered that to a Basic White card base and then the first piece I cut on top of that.  Next, I cut out a  5.25″ x 3.5″ piece of Boho Blue card stock using another die that cut out the stitched curve and the various dots at the same time.  I layered that on top of the card.

Next, I stamped the sentiment in Night Of Navy ink and cut it out using a die from the Stylish Shapes die set.  I added that to the card and thought I was done but I noticed that the sentiment needed a little more so I cut out a Night Of Navy flower and Old Olive leaves.

Red Tide has hit the Sarasota area and it is not much fun.  A “red tide” is a common term used for a harmful algal bloom. In case you don’t know, harmful algal blooms, or HABs, occur when colonies of algae—simple plants that live in the sea and freshwater—grow out of control while producing toxic or harmful effects on people, fish, shellfish, marine mammals, and birds. The most common effect it has on people is that it makes us cough.  A lot.  I am not sure exactly what causes it but I am sure you could do a Google search if you want more information.  In any case, when red tide comes to Sarasota when we are here, we end up staying inside because who wants to cough all day?  Thankfully, today it is better so we can go out and enjoy the sunshine and warmth.

This is a quick and easy card I made a couple of weeks ago.  Actually, I think the layout was included in the class I took last month, but I am not positive.  In any case, the hardest part of this card for me was to tie the ribbon.  I am sure many of you can sympathize with that.

I first took a 3″ x 4″ piece of Fresh Freesia card stock and layered a 2 7/8″ x 3 7/8″ piece of Designer Series Paper called Dandy Designs on top of it.  Dandy Designs DSP is one of the products you can order for free with a qualifying order during Sale-a-bration.  I love this paper because the colors are so bright and fun.  You get 48 12″ x 12″ pieces in the pack and each piece has a different design on the front and back.  As a side note, there are only two weeks left for Sale-a-bration so don’t miss out!

After adhering the piece of Fresh Freesia and Dandy Designs Designer Series paper to a Pale Papaya card base, I cut another 1″ x 4″ piece of it and layered that on top of a 1 1/8″ x 4″ piece of Pale Papaya card stock.  I wrapped a piece of retired Pale Papaya ribbon around it and adhered it to my card.  Next,  I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set called Around The Bend and cut it out using one of the Stylish Shapes Dies set and glued it to the card using Dimensionals.  Lastly, I added some Opaque Adhesive Backed Gems under the sentiment.

Stampin Up Around The Bend

So far, our stay in Florida has been fantastic!  We have a place that is right on the beach of the gulf coast.  The weather has been sunny and warm and, well, just perfect.  Every morning we get up and walk the beach.  My mother used to come here and she was the shell queen.  She came home every day with buckets of shells.  Me?  Not so much but I have managed to find a few sand dollars and shark eyes.  I just don’t have the patience or the back to bend over a pile of shells for hours looking for perfect shells.  Plus you have to get out before sunlight with a flashlight to get all the good ones and I would rather walk when I can enjoy the view around me and not just below me.

Today, I am showing you another card using the Stampin’ Up! bundle called Around The Bend.  This is a new stamp set that is in the 2023 January – April Mini Catalog.  The stamp set and the die set both have the same name (which is so much easier for us old folks who have trouble enough remembering one name, much less two).  Both the stamp set and the dies have images that bend (hence the name) and are fun to use.

To make this card I first layered a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Dandy Designs Designer Series Paper on a Granny Apple Green card base.  This pack of paper is so pretty with beautiful color combinations.  There are 48 sheets of double-sided designs (4 of each).  The best part is you can get this pack of paper for free during Sale-a-bration with an order of $100 (before tax and shipping).  Next, I used a 2.5″ x 4″ piece of Basic White card stock and stamped the two leaf images in Granny Apple Green ink on opposite corners.  Then, I stamped the sentiment in Balmy Blue ink.  Lastly, I cut out the flowers and the centers using So Saffron and Balmy Blue card stock and adhered them to the card using Dimensionals.  I love the way the dies cut out the shapes as well as add some embossing.  I layered that onto a 2 5/8″ by 4 1/8″ piece of Granny Apple Green card stock and then the card base.

Stampin Up Around The Bend

Stampin’ Up! has really upped their game on Designer Series Papers.  There are some really gorgeous packs in the new 2023 January – April Mini Catalog as well as the 2023 Sale-a-bration Catalog.  The colors are just gorgeous and there are so many to choose from.  Plus, don’t forget there are also some beautiful packs in the 2022-2023 Annual Catalog as well.

I used a new pack of DSP from the mini catalog called Fancy Flora.  This paper is 6″ x 6″.  The best way to explain it is, it looks like it was made from gobs of paint in different colors.  I know that doesn’t sound the best but it is true.  Here is a photo of the different patterns:

Stampin Up Fancy Flora

Aren’t the colors just gorgeous!?!

To make this card, I first folded a 5.5″ x 8.5″ piece of Basic White card stock in half. Next, I used a new bundle called Around The Bend.  This bundle includes a stamp set and coordinating dies with the same name (Yay!).  I used one of the curved stamps that includes the two lines as the dots with Evening Evergreen ink and stamped in about halfway down the front of the card.  The die set includes one that goes with this stamp.  It cuts a scallop around each of the dots perfectly.

Next, I cut out all the flowers and leaves using Calypso Coral, Petal Pink, Soft Succulent and Evening Evergreen card stock and layered them above the curve line.  I cut a piece of the Fancy Flora Designer Series Paper and adhered that to the  inside of the back of the card.  I stamped the sentiment in Evenin Evergreen ink.  Lastly, I added some 2021-2022 InColor Opal Rounds between the flowers.

Stampin Up Around The Bend

I love the holidays but I have to say that this year I was wiped out by the time they ended.  We did a lot of traveling to different places, a lot of cooking and preparing, and lot of being with family (which was the best part)!  We went to go visit with my youngest son and when we left his house, we took Emory home with us for five days.  When she was visiting we also had Madelyn and Nolan here so they could all play together.  We went to a trampoline park, shopping, walking, and lots of playing games.  We really had a great time but I was exhausted by the time it was over.  I am definitely out of practice!

Around The Bend is another great product in the January – June Mini Catalog that is now available to purchase.  It is a fun stamp set that has a lot of curves, great sentiments and some added flowers and leaves.  I love the curves.  The dies, which are also called Around The Bend are the stars of this bundle.  The second I saw them, I knew I had to have them.  There are stitched curves and curves with leaves and bubbles.  There is a scalloped curve plus there are some great leaf and flower dies.

To make this card, I first added a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Dandy Designs Designer Series Paper to a Basic White card base.  This DSP is gorgeous!  It has the most beauitful colors that are soft and go so well together.  Is is one of the products you can get free with a qualifying order during Sale-a-bration. Then I cut out a 3.75″ x 4″ piece of Basic White card stock using the die that cuts a curve but also has leaves attached to it.  You can see how it cuts if you look at my card.  The white leaves are part of this die. Next, I cut out all the flowers and leaves in Coastal Cabana, Balmy Blue and Pool Party card stock and layered them along the curve.  I stamped sentiment in Coastal Cabana ink and cut it out using a die from the set called Mini Pocket Envelope.  Lastly, I added some Glossy Dots.

Remember, it is also Sale-a-bration time so if you order the Around The Bend bundle you can save 10% PLUS you can choose something free from the Sale-a-bration Catalog!
