Butterfly Basics

Butterfly Basics is a stamp set that has been around for a while.  It is a great stamp set for vintage cards yet it can also be a clean and simple (CAS) card.  Buffy is a vintage stamper.  She makes these gorgeous cards and when she uses this stamp set, her cards look so much different than mine.  One great thing about this stamp set is it comes in Wood Mount, Clear Mount and Photopolymer so whatever your favorite stamp material is, you can get it!  It also has matching dies called Butterflies Thinlits.

I really like the sentiment that I used on this card.  It makes me think about people and how they change over their lifetime.  Awkward young girls may turn into ballerinas.  A gangly, klutzy boy turns into an awesome athlete.  It is like the ugly duckling story.  I love that story!

To make this card I first stamped the fern In Tranquil Tide.  I then stamped it again in Wild Wasabi.  The other color I used is Island Indigo.

Butterfly Basics Sympathy Card

No one likes to have to send a sympathy card but sometimes you have to so I try to keep a couple on hand.  I made this card using a couple of different stamp sets.  The flowers are from Butterfly Basics.  This stamp set has been around for a little while but it hasn’t seen any ink in a long time.  You know how it is.  I get new stamp sets that I am so excited about and those poor older sets sit there on the shelf so lonely and sad.  This past month I have been trying to get out those sets.  They made me happy once and they still make me happy!

The sentiment is from Rose Wonder, another older lonely set.  This set has some great sentiments that can be used for most every occasion.  It has wedding, birthday, thank you and sympathy sentiments in it.  I love sets that can be so versatile.

The embossing folder is from the 2017 Holiday Catalog and is called Quilt Top.  Although the stamp set called Christmas Quilt and the Quilt Builder dies are retiring, this embossing folder is not.  By the way, don’t forget this is the last week you will be able to buy some of the products in the Holiday Catalog because they will be retiring on January 2nd. A Watercolor Creation

I decided I need to go out of my comfort zone every once in a while.  Sometimes I get in a rut so it was fun to try something different.  This is not a new technique by any means but it is kind of new to me.

To make this card I lightly spritzed some water on Shimmery White Cardstock.  Then I stamped the flowers from the stamp set called Wild About Flowers a couple of times in Berry Burst (a new InColor coming soon).  The color did run a little more than I had planned but I through it still looked ok (remember I am getting out of my comfort zone of crisp images).  Then I waited a little bit until the cardstock was almost dry before stamping the flowers a third time.  They didn’t run as much as the first two.  After that I stamped the fern from Butterfly Basics in Old Olive, more flowers in another new InColor coming soon called Powder Pink.  Finally, I stamped the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink when the card was completely dry.  I probably should have used a bolder sentiment but it was too late.

I think I’ll stick with my crisp images!

Butterfly Basics

Butterfly Basics is another stamp set that is going to carry over into the 2017 Annual Catalog.  One of the great things about this set is it comes in Wood Mount, Clear Mount and Photopolymer.  I love it when Stampin’ Up! makes everyone happy and gives us lots of choices.  Each of these materials has it advantages so you can choice whichever one is your favorite.  Rubber is great for stamps with a lot of details.  Photopolymer is great because it is clear so you can see exactly where you are stamping.

The colors I used on this card are Island Indigo, Old Olive and Very Vanilla.  Sometimes Very Vanilla doesn’t show up well in pictures but I love how it softens the look of a card.  By the way, the 2017 Annual Catalog that comes out on June 1st is going to have Very Vanilla Thick Cardstock.  That is awesome!

Whenever I need a little inspiration I look for a challenge to do.  I usually like to do sketch challenges because I find them easier.  I just look at the sketch and figure out what stamp set I own that will fit it.  In this case, I used a sketch challenge from Fab Friday.  It is an old challenge so I didn’t enter it but it gave me inspiration so I used it anyway.  Here is the sketch.

I used the stamp set called Butterfly Basics.  It is an older set that I haven’t used in a while so it was nice to re-discover it.

Buffy’s Birthday Card

Butterfly Basics

There is a little story behind this card.  As you know, I am part of the Watercooler Wednesday Challenge.  All the members give the other members a challenge to do and we post our cards every Wednesday.  One of the members gave us a “Vintage Card” challenge.  Um. No.  This is Susan.  Susan doesn’t do vintage because Susan stinks at vintage.  Buffy does vintage!  Well, I thought I would give it a try anyway.  Well, it stunk.  It made me laugh it was so bad.  I sent a picture of it to Buffy.  She said she loved it.  I didn’t believe her so I decided to send it to her for her birthday.  I know.  You don’t usually send an ugly birthday card to someone but she did say she liked it.  Buffy and I have a thing where sometimes we send each other ugly or bloody or road kill cards to be funny.

Buffy posted her card.  I was horrified because she actually told people on her blog that I made it.  Funny thing happened though.  People commented that they liked it.  What?  I am convinced Buffy paid people to comment.  In any case, I decided to post the card on my blog.  Maybe it is not so bad after all.

Lovely Amazing You

Lovely Amazing You, Gorgeous Grunge

Lovely Amazing You is one of those stamp sets that is not in any Stampin’ Up! catalog but is available for purchase.  You can see a few other sets that are also available by clicking on the link about that says “Merchandise Not In The Catalog”.  I used this set to stamp the sentiment on this card.  I love the sayings and the fonts.  It reminds me of neat handwriting (certainly not my own!).

The splatters in the background are from Gorgeous Grunge and the butterfly comes in the stamp set called Butterfly Basics.  Try to ignore the ribbon I used.  I just realized it is retired!  Sorry about that!

Watercooler Challenge WWC26

Banner1

It is time again for another Watercooler Challenge.  This time it is a color challenge by Jean.  I am not sure which I like better.  The Lemon Pie or the colors but both are delicious looking!Lemonade Pie Color Challenge - June 14 2015Here is my card:

Crazy About You

I used the stamp set called Crazy About You.  This set was originally in the 2015 Stampin’ Up! Occasions Catalog and was carried over to the Annual Catalog.  I am so glad it was.  It has a ton of sayings (even though I didn’t use one of them on this card) that are very versatile.  The flower I used matches a punch we have called Flower Medallion.  I did use the sentiment from Butterfly Basics because it seemed to fit better in the space I had.

If you like to see the other Watercooler Artist’s creations click HERE.  We would love it if you participated by posting your card using these colors on that web site too.  You could be picked as this week’s favorite and have the honor a winner’s badge.

Gold Butterfly Basics

Butterfly Basics

I am so happy that Stampin’ Up! finally was able to get the Butterfly Thinlits Dies back in stock after such a long time.  That slow down on the west coast caused a lot of delays for a lot of companies, including Stampin’ Up!  Thankfully it was settled and the merchandise that was stuck in the stock yard for so many months is finally starting to move.

I used the stamp set called Butterfly Basics which is in the Occasions Catalog.  The Butterfly Thinlits Dies matches this stamp set and you can save 15% by buying them together.  I did happen to see online that both of these items will be in the new catalog which is just awesome because I love this set.
