Although is has been a little warmer up here, there is still a lot of snow on the ground.  Thankfully the days have been in the high 30’s so the snow is melting slowly, which means no flooding.  I still miss the warmth and sunshine that we haven’t seen in such a long time.  I decided to make a card that depicts sunshine and warmth to try to cheer myself up.  It worked until I looked outside and saw all the snow.  Maybe I should just close the blinds!

I made this card using the stamp set called By The Seashore.  It has some shells, a starfish, and a sand dollar.  The shapes are all pretty easy to cut out so I can’t really call it fussy cutting.  I don’t do fussy cutting (as you all know!).

A Beach Break

By The Seashore

I think it is going to be a long winter for me.  It is only December and I have had enough already.  I am dreaming of going to Florida, walking the beach, and picking up shells.  I want to feel sunshine and warmth and not this cold, dreary weather we have up North.

I made this card using the By The Seashore stamp set.  It reminds me of warm weather.  It reminds me of Florida.  Luckily I will be going there at the end of January for the Stampin’ Up! Leadership Conference.  Until then, I can only dream about it and stay inside!

DSC01389

My mother, who is 88, is an avid shell collector.  She goes to Florida every year for 8 weeks in a condo that is right on Lido Beach.  During this time, she gets up at the crack of dawn.  It is still dark.  I mean, still really dark.  She heads out with her flashlight to get the first shells on the beach.  She knows the name of every shell and “teaches” anyone else who asks.  What does she do with these shells, you ask?  She makes wreaths, and candles, and pictures and anything else you could possibly think of.  She has boxes and boxes AND boxes of them in her garage.  I have shells from her.  My kids have shells from her.  My friends have shells from her.

Of course, when I saw this set, I had to have it.  It is called By The Seashore.  Every time I use it, it reminds me of Mom.

Today is the last day to save 25% on 25 different stamp sets!

Happy Birthday By The Seashore

Happy Birthday Zachary

Happy Birthday Zachary

I made this birthday for two reasons.  The first and most important is today is Zachary’s birthday.  Zachary is the youngest of my 3 boys and I am not going to tell you how old he is because it makes me feel even older than I already do!  Now it is probably a good thing that Zachary does not subscribe to my blog because he probably would not be happy reading this entry.  The reason I used By The Seashore was because it has an image of a crab.  When he was little, he often got a little crabby so we would hold him upside down to shake the crabs out.  This usually got him giggling which got him out of the crabby mood he was in.  Worked every time!  The problem is now he is sort of stuck with the crab motif.  He has crab lights, signs, and even a sink drain with a crab on it.  Every time we give him something like this, it still makes me smile so I guess we will keep doing it.

The second reason I made this card is because I am a hoarder.  Yes, I confess.  I hoard Designer Series Paper, brads, buttons, ribbon, etc..  I am trying to stop doing that by using the things I buy.  So I used some of my Washi Tape (actually three whole pieces of it!) to make this card.

So Happy Birthday Zachary.  May your day be full of giggles and smiles!

Freshly Made Sketches and Sneak Peek

My card for the Freshly Made Sketches challenge uses a couple of the new In Colors (Coastal Cabana and Crisp Cantaloupe) and a new regular color (Smoky Slate) coming in the new catalog.  I am already in love with all these new colors.  They remind me of sunshine and tropical beaches so I decided to make my card using By The Seashore.  The sentiment is from Sweet Essentials.

Here is the sketch challenge:

Believe it or not, there are less than 3 months until the launch of the new 2013/2014 Stampin Up! catalog.  I know that seems like a lot of time, but it is enough time to get everything on your wishlist?  I have been concentrating on showing you samples made with stamps from the Occasions Catalog but for the next couple of  months I am going to re-visit some stamp sets that haven’t had a lot of ink lately.

The first set is called By The Seashore.  I love this set because I spent a lot of time at the beach in Florida when I was growing up (actually I still go there for vacation!).  I stamped the background with En Francais which is a great background stamp.  The sentiment is from Embellished Events.

August 2012 Club Meeting

Last night we had our August Club meeting.  Although it was a small group we had a lot of fun.  The first card they made used Daydream Medallions and Floral Frames Framelits.  The colors were Crumbb Cake, Primrose Petals and So Saffron.  I love this color combination.

The next card I CASEd (Copy and Share Everything) from Joanne Do, a friend of mine who lives in Hawaii.  I never  even though of getting this set until I saw her card.  I did change mine just a little but the overall design is her’s.  It uses By The Seashore and Sweet Essentials stamp sets.  The colors are Always Artichoke, Whisper White, Riding Hood Red, Not Quite Navy and More Mustard.  We spondged the outside of the card using Crumb Cake.

Thanks Joanne!

The last card we made used the Perfectly Perserved stamp set and the Cannery Ser Framelits from the Holiday Mini.  We used the new Argyle Embossing Folder and the Small Oval Punch.  The colors are Real Red, Whisper White and Certainly Celery.  The jar is behind a window sheet.
