Easy Fancy Flora DSP Cards

One of the things I love about Stampin’ Up! is that they sell beautiful Designer Series Paper.  The great thing is there are two different designs on each sheet.  Sometimes it is hard to decide which side to use.  The other great thing about their DSP is you can use it to create beautiful cards that are so easy to make.  Each of the cards I made took less than ten minutes.

To make the card above, I cut a 3.5″ x 4.75″ piece of Fancy Flora Designer Series Paper and layered it onto a 3.75″ x  5″ piece of Orchid Oasis card stock.  I wrapped a piece of Soft Sea Foam ribbon (retired) around it and layered it on a Soft Sea Foam card base.  Then I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set called Charming Sentiments using Orchid Oasis ink on Soft Sea Foam card stock and cut it out using the Deckled Rectangle Dies.  I adhered it to the card using Dimensionals.  Lastly, I added a couple of 2022-2024 InColor Matte Decorative Dots.

This card was even easier and faster to make than the first one.  I cut a 3.5″ x 4.75″ piece of Fancy Flora Designer Series Paper and layered it onto a 3.75″ x  5″ piece of Tahitian Tide card stock and a Starry Sky card base.  I cut out the sentiment using the Amazing Thanks dies and Tahitian Tide card stock.  Lastly, I added some Pastel Adhesive Backed Sequins.

Try these simple cards when you need something beautiful but you don’t have a lot of time.

Painted Poppies

Stampin Up Painted Poppies

Every now and then I have to go through my current stamp sets to see what I have not used in a while.  Painted Poppies is one of those sets that has not seen a lot of ink lately.  It is a cute set that has fun coordinating dies called Painted Labels.  The dies cut out some of the images in the stamp set but it also has a nice border die, a couple of label dies and a fun circle die.  I decided this was a fun set to get out and use again.

To make this card I first stamped the flower heads and leaves in Mossy Meadow ink and colored them using Fresh Freesia, Daffodil Delight, Pale Papaya and Mossy Meadow Blends.  Then I stamped the small background poppies on a piece of Basic White cardstock.  I stamped the stems only from the smaller flower and colored them in with a Blends.  I added some Balmy Blue splatters to the background to make it look like the sky.  Then I adhered all the pieces using Dimensionals.

Lastly, I stamped the sentiment from Charming Sentiments in Versamark Ink and heat embossed it with white embossing powder on a piece of Mossy Meadow card stock.  I adhered that to the card using Dimensionals too.

I wish everyone has a very Happy and Healthy New Year and lots of fun this weekend!  We are going to have some of our grandchildren spending the night to celebrate with us.  Since they are so young, I have them watch last year’s ball drop and we blow horns and make lots of noise and then they go to bed.  They are just too young to stay up until midnight and we are too old to do so!

Amazing Silhouettes

Stampin Up Amazing Silhouettes

As you know I am on a quest to use products that I have not stamped with in a while.   Amazing Silhouettes is one of those stamp sets from the 2022/2023 Stampin’ Up! Annual Catalog that has not seen ink in a while.  Plus, I found a fun technique online from Jennifer McGuire that would be perfect to do with this set.

The images for this particular stamp look like this after inking them up:

As you see the ink is placed around the image and leaves the image itself the color of your card stock.  I wanted to have the image be colorful and it was easy to do.  The technique is called Emboss Resist.

First, I stamped the image using Versamark Ink on Basic White card stock.  Then, I used Clear Embossing Powder and heat set it with my Heat Tool.  Again, due to the way the stamp is, the tree itself did not have any embossing on it.  I took some Stampin’ Up!® Write Markers in Orchid Oasis, Bermuda Bay, Granny Apple Green and Mossy Meadow and colored in the tree.  The clear embossing powder doesn’t absorb ink so those areas stayed white and the areas without the embossing powder took the color. Isn’t that fun?!  After I added the ink, I fussy cut out the tree image (don’t look too closely as I am not very good at cutting things out by hand).

Next, I cut out 1″ x 5.5″ pieces of Orchid Oasis, Bermuda Bay, Granny Apple Green and Mossy Meadow card stock and adhered them to a Basic White card base.  I ran that through my Cut & Emboss Machine using the Stitched Greenery Die.  Lastly, I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set called Charming Sentiments and cut it out using the coordinating Sentiment Silhouettes die set.   You can save 10% if you purchase them in a bundle.  I layered the sentiment on the card using Dimensionals.

Spruced Up

Stampin Up Spruced Up

Last week we received a copy of the July – December Mini Catalog retired and carryover lists.  You can click on the links below to see the products that are retiring or being carried over.  The retirement list is quite long and one of the stamp and die bundles that is retiring is called Spruced Up.  The stamp set is a Christmas set and includes a couple of Christmas trees, a couple of Christmas ornaments, some nice sentiments and a few other stamps (such as a snowflake, candy cane, present, etc.  The coordinating dies are a little different because, not only do they cut out the trees, but they also cut out an outline of the trees.  I love it when the dies do different and unusual things.

To make this card, I first stamped the tree in Shaded Spruce ink and cut it out using the die set.  Then I stamped the snowflakes in Orchid Oasis ink and cut them out.  Then I cut out the stars directly from Daffodil Delight card stock.

Next, I cut out the frames using the die set called Fabulous Frames in Orchid Oasis card stock.  This die set is in the 2022/2023 Annual Catalog and cuts out three different frame shapes as well as some other things.  I ran a piece of Basic White card stock through my Cut & Emboss machine using the Wintry 3D embossing folder.  I love how it embosses some snowflakes, as well as some swirls and dots.  It is very pretty in person.  Lastly, I stamped the sentiment from the set called Charming Sentiments and cut it out using the Sentiment Silhouettes dies.

Remember, once retiring items sell out they are gone for good so if you want something from the July – December Mini Catalog, you should order it before it is too late.  Some of the items are on sale too!

Soft Seedlings

Stampin Up Soft Seedlings

Emboss Resist is a stamping technique that has been around for a long time but I have not used it in ages.  It is a lot of fun and very easy to do, especially now with our Blending Brushes.  All you need to do this technique is some Versamark, Clear Embossing Powder, a Heat Tool and a way to add some color.

To make this card I first stamped the leaf and seedlings in Versamark on Basic White card stock using the Soft Seedling stamp set that is in the Stampin’ Up!® 2022 July-December Mini Catalog.  Then I sprinkled some Clear Embossing Powder on top, shook off the excess and heat set it with my Heat Tool.  I added some Real Red, Pumpkin Pie and Daffodil Delight ink with Blending Brushes. The ink does not change the color of the leaf because I sealed it with the embossing powder.  It looks like I stamped it in white ink.

After adding the color to the card, I cut it out using the Deckled Rectangles dies.  I cut out another using a larger size die in Basic White card stock and adhered both rectangles to a Pumpkin Pie card base.  Then I stamped the sentiment from the Charming Sentiments stamp set in Memento Black Ink and cut it out using the coordinating die from Sentiment Silhouettes.  You can purchase the Charming Sentiments stamp set and the Sentiment Silhouettes die set in a bundle and save 10%.

Stampin Up Designer Tags

There are quite a few die sets in the Stampin’ Up!® 2022/2023 Annual Catalog that are considered stand-alone sets.  This means that there is not a specific stamp set that coordinates with them.  I showed you a card w while ago where I used the die set called Split Card Textures.  That is a die set that stands alone.  There are also the Mini Pocket Envelop Dies, Cracker & Treat Box, Dots & Spots, Deckled Rectangles, Brushed Shapes, Give It A Whirl, Fancy Frames, Designer Tags and a few others.  These sets can be used with a variety of stamp sets in all the catalogs.  You can tell which sets are stand-alone sets because the index for the die sets says “You can see these dies in use on page” so and so.  Whenever I get a new catalog, I always look for this kind of dies.

I made this card using the Designer Tags.  The tag outline, the inside of the tag, the branches and the butterfly are all part of this set.  I first layered a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Fresh Freesia card stock on a Basic White card base.  Then I adhered a 3.75″ x 5″ piece of Splendid Day Specialty Designer Series Paper to that.  Next, I added a 3 7/8″ x 2 5/8″ of Fresh Freesia card stock with a 3.5″ x 2.5″ piece of Basic White card stock on top. I cut the butterfly and branches from Pool Party card stock.  The first layer of the tag is Fresh Freesia and the patterned piece on top is Basic White.

Next, I used the stamp set called Charming Sentiments with their coordinating set of dies called Sentiment Silhouettes.  I stamped the sentiment in Versamark Ink and then heat embossed it with White Embossing Powder.  The embossing powder is part of the Basic embossing group which also includes black and clear along with white.  After embossing I cut it out using the coordinating die.  By the way, each of the sentiments in the Charming Sentiment stamp set has a coordinating die.  It always took a long time to figure out which die went with each sentiment.  I ended up stamping every sentiment on a piece of Basic White card stock and layering them along with the dies on a magnetic sheet.  Below is a photo of this.  It helps to quickly find the correct die.  If you look closely, you will see that the dies look like they do. not match the sentiments correctly.  That is because the dies stick better on the magnetic sheet when the cutting side is up and in order to match the stamps exactly the cutting side would have to be facing down.

Yesterday I got the spend most of the day playing with my two grandchildren that live near our cottage.  Olivia is three and Madison is seven months old.  Whew!  I have to say I am definitely out of practice when it comes to little, little ones.  Olivia is just adorable but definitely has a mind of her own.  She loves coming to the cottage to throw rocks in the water.  We did lots of playing and reading (her favorite book is Yummy Yucky).  Madison is just sweet and happy and loves to look out the windows at the lake.  I did need a nap after they left though.

I decided to mix some old products with some new products on this card.  The first things I did was use the Pansy Dies.  These dies coordinate with the Pansy Patch stamp set (which I did not use on this card).  I cut the flowers out using Basic White card stock and the leaves and stems using Soft Succulent.  I put the flowers together using Multipurpose Glue and then added a little Fresh Freesia ink to the centers using a Blending Brush.

Next I took a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Basic White card stock and embossed it using the Tasteful Textile 3D Embossing Folder.  I added a 1.75″ x 4″ piece of Tea Boutique Designer Series Paper on top and then tied a piece of Soft Succulent 3/8″ Open Weave Ribbon around it.  I layered these pieces on top of a Fresh Freesia card base.

After that I added the flowers and leaves to the card.  I curled them up a bit so it would add more dimension to the card.  Then I added an InColor Opal Rounds to the center of the large flower.  Lastly I stamped the sentiment from the stamp set called Charming Sentiments.  I love this stamp set because it has seventeen different sentiment stamps AND it has coordinating dies (called Sentiment Silhouettes and if you order the stamp set and the dies using the bundle item number, you will save 10%).

As you know, most of the time I make cards that have bold, bright colors.  My favorite Stampin’ Up! color family is Brights and I use them year-round.  I do like the Regals in the Fall and at Christmas time but I think I use the Subtles the least.  I have been trying to make cards that are different from my usual style by using different colors than my normal or not making them as clean and simple (CAS) as I usually do.  This time I pulled out my Subtles but still ended up making a CAS card so at least I made half my goal.

To make the background on this card I decided to use the stamp set called Artistically Inked.  I used Fresh Freesia, Blushing Bride, So Saffron and Mint Macaron. I wanted this background to be even softer than just using the Subtles so after I inked the leaves and flowers, I stamped them on a scrap piece of paper first and then on my cardstock.  This allowed them to be lighter in color than just stamping the regular way. I stamped the largest flower in the middle first and then worked my way to each corner adding the other elements.

To finish off the card I used a new stamp set that is in the 2022/2023 Annual Catalog called Charming Sentiments.  This stamp set has seventeen different sentiments that cover most occasions.  Plus it has a coordinating die set called Sentiment Silhouettes that cuts out each of the sentiments in the stamp set.  If you purchase them using the bundle item number, you will save 10%.  I stamped the sentiment in the middle of the card using Memento Black Ink.  I adhered this layer to a 4″ 5.25″ of Blushing Bride card stock and a Basic White card base.
