Saying Goodbye To Some Of My Favorites

DSC02089Some of my favorite stamp sets are on the Stampin’ Up! Retirement List so I thought I would “showcase” some of them.  This particular card has three sets that are all saying goodbye.  The flowers are from the stamp set called Field Flowers.  I love this set because it reminds me of my childhood and all the vacations we spent at my grandparent’s house in Vermont.  Their house was surrounded by fields of wild flowers that looked just like this.

The background stamp I used is called  and is another one that is on the Retirement List.  I love this stamp too!  Finally, the sentiment is from Delightful Dozen.  Delightful Dozen has 12 (bet you couldn’t guess that!) different sentiments in it that cover just about any occasion you might have.

The main thing about the Retirement List is, once an item sells out, it is gone forever so if you like anything on the list, you should buy it now.

A Soft Field Flowers

Field Flowers

This is the second card we made at our monthly Club meeting.  The picture does not do it justice.  It is really soft looking and a little vintage even (I know.  Aren’t you surprised?).  This card uses a lot of secondary stamping.  This is where you ink up your stamp and then stamp it first on a piece of scrap paper before stamping it on your cardstock.  It gives it a softer look.  First, we stamped the background stamp called En Francais onto a piece of scrap paper and then again on a piece of Very Vanilla cardstock.  I used Smoky Slate ink.  I lightly sponged around the outside with Garden Green Ink.  Then I used the stamp set called Field Flowers (remembering to first stamp it on a piece of scrap paper before stamping on your cardstock).  The colors of the flowers and stems are Garden Green, Raspberry Ripple and Crushed Curry.

My mother, who is 88, is an avid shell collector.  She goes to Florida every year for 8 weeks in a condo that is right on Lido Beach.  During this time, she gets up at the crack of dawn.  It is still dark.  I mean, still really dark.  She heads out with her flashlight to get the first shells on the beach.  She knows the name of every shell and “teaches” anyone else who asks.  What does she do with these shells, you ask?  She makes wreaths, and candles, and pictures and anything else you could possibly think of.  She has boxes and boxes AND boxes of them in her garage.  I have shells from her.  My kids have shells from her.  My friends have shells from her.

Of course, when I saw this set, I had to have it.  It is called By The Seashore.  Every time I use it, it reminds me of Mom.

Today is the last day to save 25% on 25 different stamp sets!

Believe it or not, there are less than 3 months until the launch of the new 2013/2014 Stampin Up! catalog.  I know that seems like a lot of time, but it is enough time to get everything on your wishlist?  I have been concentrating on showing you samples made with stamps from the Occasions Catalog but for the next couple of  months I am going to re-visit some stamp sets that haven’t had a lot of ink lately.

The first set is called By The Seashore.  I love this set because I spent a lot of time at the beach in Florida when I was growing up (actually I still go there for vacation!).  I stamped the background with En Francais which is a great background stamp.  The sentiment is from Embellished Events.

Secret Garden

I saw a similar card to my next card on Stampin Connection which is a web site for Stampin Up Demonstrators only.  I changed it around because the demonstrator that made the original card hand cut out her flowers.  I used the Secret Garden Framelits to cut out mine.  It is so much easier than hand cutting.  The swirl in the background of this card is from Everything Eleanor and the background is called En Francais.

No Time? There is Always Time

I often hear people say they just don’t have time to make cards.  I tell them you don’t have to make beautiful cards with fancy folds and lots of layers.  You can make beautiful cards really quickly.  Here are some examples of one layer cards that I think are very nice  The first set of cards uses the stamp set called Gently Falling (Item #123802).  I just used Very Vanilla card stock on the card on the left and Whisper White on the card on the right.

The next set of one layer cards uses Field Flowers (Item#122760) for the card on the left and Lovely As A Tree (Item #115026) for the card on the right.

If you really want to save time, Stampin Up even sells blank notecards in Whisper White (Item#107311).  The set includes 20 cards with 20 envelopes.

Now you have no more excuses!  Have fun stamping even when in a hurry!
