Counting Sheep

Hello everyone!  Today is another Stamp Off Challenge.  This time our challenge is called “Down On The Farm”.  I looked through all my stamp sets and could not find one that had anything to do with a farm.  Then I realized that one of the Sale-a-bration stamp sets is called Counting Sheep.  Perfect!  There are actually TWO Sale-a-bration items I used.  One is the stamp set and the other is the coordinating dies called Sheep Dies.  You can get both of these for free with a qualifying order.  Even better!

Stampin Up Counting Sheep

To make this card I first stamped the sheep in Smoky Slate using Memento Black Ink.  At this point I have to admit I had some help with an idea for this card.  Diana Gibbs did a video showing how she used a gel pen and drew curls all over her sheep.  I thought this was just adorable so I CASEd (Copy And Share Everything) her using her great gel pen idea.  I also used her rosy cheek suggestion using a Flirty Flamingo Stampin’  Blends.  Then I cut it out using the coordinating die from the Sheep Dies.

After this, one thing led to another.   I decided that my sheep looked like she was performing so I decided she was singing.  Therefore, I used the Merry Melody Embossing Folder for my background with Basic White card stock.  This folder is in the 2021 July – December Mini Catalog.  Then I decided she should be singing on top of the cute little fence that comes with the Sheep Dies so I cut that out using Cinnamon Cider card stock.  The card still looked a little plain so I added the sun/moon behind her using a piece of Sweet Symmetry Designer Series Paper and backed it with a piece of Cinnamon Cider card stock using the Layering Circles Dies.  I cut the clouds out in Basic White also using the Sheep Dies.  Lastly I added the Flirty Flamingo flower to her with a Champagne Rhinestone.  I popped the sheep and clouds up using a Dimensional.

The sentiment is from the Free As A Bird stamp set.

Now, let’s go see what Buffy and Jackie used for their farm.

Don’t forget you can get this cute Counting Sheep stamp set and Sheep Dies for free with a qualifying order during the month of September.  Hurry because when they sell out, they will be gone for good.

Stampin Up Free As A Bird

Free As a Bird is a stamp set that is in the Stampin’ Up!® 2020/2021 Annual Catalog.  It is such a cute set with multiple bird images, leaves, flowers and sentiments.  I love the little birds on the branch and decided to use them as the basis of my card.

I first stamped the birds in Memento Black Ink and then colored them with So Saffron, Smoky Slate, Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight and Just Jade Stampin Blends.  I am not a very good artist and was never a good colorer but Blends make it a lot easier because they blend so well together so you can shade and you don’t see lines.  I decided to use Designer Series Paper called Flowers Forever for the backdrop.  I punched the flags (or banners) out using the Banners Pick A Punch.  As I was starting to layer it all, I decided to stamp the leaves using Just Jade ink on the Just Jade card base to add a little texture.

Last week was a crazy week for me.  Rob and I went to Alabama to see my son and his family.  Emy is now 3 1/2 (that half is very important to her) and Jackson is 6 weeks old.  What a different 6 weeks make.  He has lost that newborn look and seems to have grown a lot since we saw him after his birth.  Emy is handling the new addition to the family pretty well now.  She didn’t want a brother.  She wanted a sister and tried to get her parents to exchange him.  I guess she has accepted that there are no returns on a baby.

A Color Challenge

Hello everyone.  Today is another Stamp Off challenge with Buffy, Jackie and me!  Today’s challenge is a color challenge.  We haven’t done one of these in a long time and I love color challenges especially when they are colors I don’t normally use.  Here are the colors we needed to use.

Here is my card:

I decided to use the stamp set called Free As A Bird.  I haven’t used it in a while so it was fun to get out again.  It is being carried over into the new Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog that comes out in June which is great news.  I love those little birds!  I first stamped them in Memento Black Ink on a piece of Whisper White cardstock and then colored them using Pool Party, Daffodil Delight, Crumb Cake and Mossy Meadow Stampin’ Blends.  Blends are so easy to use and you don’t see streak marks because they blend so well together (hence the name!).  I adhered them to a piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock which I layered on top of a piece of Crumb Cake and another piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock that I had embossed with the Subtle Embossing Folder.  I like the way it added a little texture to the layers.

Now let’s go see what Jackie and Buffy made using these colors.  I love that we don’t share our creations ahead of time so it is a surprise for us too.

Free As a Bird

As most of you know, I live in the Northeast and right now we are being invaded by Robins.  I have never seen so many Robins before!  They are everywhere.  I know most people love having birds nest around their house but these Robins have gotten out of control.  They tried to build a nest on my outside lights (multiple places), my front door wreath, my deck and right over where I park my car.  Robins are cute (sort of) but they are also very, very messy.  I am not a fan.

I actually made this card a couple of months ago and never posted it.  It was before the mess started, back when I liked Robins and thought it would be cute to make a Robin card.

The cardstock colors I used on this card are Mossy Meadow, Cajun Craze and Whisper White.  I first stamped the bird and the branch from the stamp set Free As A Bird in Memento Black Ink and colored them using my Cajun Craze, Mossy Meadow and Light Basic Black Stampin’ Blends.  I stamped the sentiment in Memento Black ink too.  Then I stamped the flowers on a separate sheet of Whisper White cardstock and cut them out by hand (don’t look too closely) and colored them with a Dark Petal Pink Blend.

This stamp set has matching dies called Stitched Nested Labels Dies.  I think these dies are one of my favorites from the entire catalog.  You can save 10% by purchasing this stamp set and dies in a Bundle.  I cut out the entire image using one of the Stitched Nested Label Dies.  Then I cut a larger one out of Cajun Craze cardstock and then again out of the 4″x 5.25″ piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock.  The dies cut the inside of the image but also cut pierce the outside.  I love that part! Here is a close up where you can see I used the inside pieces for Whisper White and Cajun craze but used the outside piece for the Mossy Meadow.

Lastly I added the flowers using Dimensionals.

I probably should have used embossing paste along the bottom of the card to simulate the mess on my car, wreath and decks!

Free As A Bird

Earlier this month I had my first class.  This class used to be a club but I decided to change it up a bit this stamping year and make it a class instead.  We make 5 cards (2 of 2 designs and 1 a little more complicated).  During June I decided to make the two that are supposed to be the same be similar but not exactly the same to give the class attendees some different ideas to use with the same stamp set and/or layout.

Both of these cards used the stamp set called Free As A Bird.  This set has dies that go with it called Stitched Nested Labels and you can save 10% by purchasing them in a Bundle.

To make this card, I first randomly stamped the background using Pretty Peacock ink on Soft Sea Foam cardstock with the leaves and flowers.  Then I stamped the bird image in Pretty Peacock Ink onto Whisper White cardstock and cut it out using one of the Stitched Nested Labels Dies and colored it using a Dark Daffodil Delight, Light Flirty Flamingo and Dark Soft Sea Foam Green Stampin’ Blends.  I stamped the sentiment in Pretty Peacock Ink and also cut it out using the Stitched Nested Labels.

The second card has the same layout as the first one but looks totally different.  I inked the Embossing Folder called Country Floral 3D with Petal Pink Ink and then ran it through my die cutting machine with Whisper White cardstock.  I love this technique!  The ink only goes on the background with the images popping out.  Then I stamped the bird and sentiment in Memento Black Ink and cut it out using the Stitched Nested Labels dies.  I colored the bird using my Dark Petal Pink Stampin’ Blends.  I thought it needed something else so I added the bow using Nature’s Twine in Mint Macaron using a Glue Dot.

Free As A Bird Sneak Peek

Free As A Bird is a new stamp set that will be in the 2019/2020 Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog.  As a Demonstrator I was able to order this set early, which is one of my favorite reasons for being a Demo.  I am not a patient person!  This stamp set comes with a set of dies called Stitched Nesting Labels, which are my favorite set of dies in the new catalog.  They are in the shape of long hexagons and they stitched the inner part and the outer part of the cardstock just like the Rectangle Stitched dies do.  You will be able to save 10% if you buy both in a Bundle starting June 4th.

This was close to the Make ‘N Take card that they gave us at OnStage in April.  I couldn’t make it there but since I could pre-order all the materials for it, I made it at home.  I changed it up a bit but it was close to this.  The Designer Series Paper is called Bird Ballad and has the colors Basic Black, Basic Gray, Bermuda Bay, Calypso Coral, Daffodil Delight, Old Olive, Petal Pink, Pool Party, Smoky Slate, Soft Suede and Whisper White.  I think that includes a wide enough range of colors for everyone’s taste!

This was a quick and easy card to make.  I stamped the birds in Memento Black Ink and colored them using my Light and Dark Daffodil Delight, Old Olive and Petal Pink Blends.

The new catalog is available for pick up if you would like one.  Just shoot me an email to let me know.
