My Hero Christmas Card

My Hero, Pretty Pines, Cable Knit, Stampin Up, susanstamps.wordpress.com

Christmas is only ten days away.  I just can not believe how quickly it got here.  I am not sure November even happened this year.  I barely remember anything about it.  I just know it was Halloween and then December.  I’m afraid that if you haven’t made your Christmas cards by now, you either better find some time to start making them today or just be ok with mailing them out late (I know you will all make them because that is what stampers do!).

I made this card using a new embossing folder that is in the 2016 Holiday Catalog called Cable Knit Dynamic.  The reason it is called Dynamic is because it makes a 3D kind of impression.  It is deeper than a normal embossing folder with more dimension.  The best way to use this embossing folder is to lightly spritz your card stock with water before embossing.  That helps break up some of the fibers in the paper and doesn’t harm the paper in any way.

I also used the Stitched Shapes Framelits that will be in the 2017 Annual Catalog.  Stampin’ Up! decided to release them early and they sold out so quickly that you can’t order them right now.  Stampin’ Up! did place another order for them so hopefully they will be back in stock soon.

Other items I used to make this card is the stamp set called My Hero.  It is the Ronald McDonald House Charities stamp set.  Stampin’ Up! donates $3 for every stamp set it sells to the Ronald McDonald House.  It is a great set that matches a lot of the punches and Framelits in the catalog.  I also used the 5/8″ Burlap Ribbon that is in the Annual Catalog.  This ribbon has a bit of sparkle to it which I love.  Finally I used the Pretty Pines Thinlits to make the evergreen branches.

Flourish Thinlits Celebration

Flourish Thinlits, My Hero, You've Got This, Stampin Up, susanstamps.wordpress.com

I made this card originally for a color challenge, but of course, I can’t remember where I got it from.  The challenged used Pink Pirouette, Pool Party and Basic Black.  Normally I would never use pink and blue together.  There was this woman I used to work with many years ago who would wear this bright blue and pink outfit.  The pants, sweater vest and top matched all matched. I have to say, it is one of the worst outfits I have ever seen and she wore it a lot.  It is funny how memories can turn you off from certain colors but in any case, I decided to try them again.  I actually like the card but I am still not so sure about the colors.

I stamped the background using the large stamp in the set called You’ve Got This.  The sentiment is from the Ronald McDonald House Charities stamp set.  When you purchase this set Stampin’ Up! donates $3 to RMHC.  I hand cut out the banner, although there is a set of Framelits you can purchase that would cut it out for you (Cupcake Cutouts).

What do you think of the color?  Yes or no?  I am going with no.

Detailed Floral Thinlits Celebration

Detailed Floral Thinlits, My Hero, Stampin Up, susanstamps.wordpress.com

This year’s Ronald McDonald stamp set is called My Hero.  It is on the last page of the Stampin’ Up! 2016 Annual Catalog.  Honestly, I am not sure why they put it there because it tends to be forgotten.  This set is adorable and matches a lot of the different punches, Framelits and Thinlits in the catalog.  The best thing of all is when you purchase this stamp set, Stampin’ Up! makes a donation to the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC).  Over the years, they have donated more than 1.5 million dollars to this worthy cause.

The sentiment “celebration” is from the Ronald McDonald House stamp set.  The cut outs below were made using the Detailed Floral Thinlits Dies.  These are gorgeous and one of my favorites.
