This is one of the cards we made at our monthly stamp club meeting.  It uses the stamp set called Sea Of Textures and the matching dies called Under The Sea.  This is such a fun set and has lots of really nice but different dies.  Although these products will be carried over into the new Stampin’ Up!® Annual Catalog, you won’t be able to get the 10% discount Bundle Price after June 3rd.  If you like it, buy it while you can get the special price.

To make this card, I first stamped the sea plants in Old Olive twice onto Whisper White cardstock.  When you stamp something twice without re-inking it, you get darker and light images which gives some depth.  I cut out the net using one of the dies in Blueberry Bushel ink.  I cut out two coral in Calypso Coral cardstock and the sand dollar in Whisper White.  I layered everything together and then cut out the little fish (one die cuts them all out at once).  Then I stamped the sentiment in Blueberry Bushel ink and layered it all onto of a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock that I had cut out using the Rectangle Stitched Dies.  I layered all of that on a piece of Best Route Designer Series Paper.  I love this paper.  It is the first time I have almost used an entire package of DSP.  Sadly, it is retiring on June 3rd.  Lastly I adhered all the layers to a piece of Whisper White cardstock.  I decided to offset it into one corner for a different look.

When I went to the Stampin’ Up! OnStage Live in Orlando last November, they did a lot of talking about different kinds of stampers.  They particularly talked about beginner stampers.  I have been a Demonstrator for 11 years now and most of my classes have stampers who have been crafting for a while so I often forget about beginner stampers.  It can be so overwhelming to be a first time stamper and sit in a class where everyone else knows what I am talking about and doing.  It was great to be reminded that not everyone knows a lot about this hobby.

That being said, I decided I would make a card for the beginner stamper.  Ideally the card should only use cardstock, ink and stamps.  That was my original goal when I was making this card.  Unfortunately, it didn’t end up that way.  I just could not help myself and had to throw in some die cuts along with the stamping.  Therefore, I can no longer call this a card for a beginner although it is still fairly simple.

To make this card, I first stamped the sea plants in Pear Pizzaz and Garden Green Ink.  Then I stamped the coral in Calypso Coral ink and the sand in Crumb Cake.  Then I stamped the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink.

Now, if I had just left it that way, I could call it a simple stamping card.  It just looked like it needed more so I added the sand dollar, sponged the background in Pool Party and then used a die cutting out the fish.
