Last Day For The Online Extravaganza & Lovely As A Tree

DSC02976

No one likes to send Sympathy cards but unfortunately they are part of life.  There is no better way to show someone from afar that you care and are thinking of them then sending a homemade card when you can’t be with them.

I made this card using the stamp set called Lovely As A Tree.  Now, everyone knows this set.  It has been a part of Stampin’ Up! the longest.  Shelli Gardner, the CEO of Stampin’ Up! said it would never retire.  Now, I am not so sure about that, but it is one of the most beautiful sets they offer.    I stamped the tree once in the foreground and then again in the background without re-inking it.  It makes the trees come out lighter which gives the illusion that they are farther away.  I did this three times.  Then I took a piece of Post-It-Note paper and cut a circle out of it, put it on the card and sponged around it. That technique is called Masking.  After removing the Post-It-Note I inked up the “moon” with a little So Saffron Ink and stamped the sentiment.

A Very Simple Thank You

All Is Calm, Four You

I made this card using a sketch I found online.  If you want (or need) to make a card but can’t figure out where to start, go online and look for card sketches.  It really helps me when I get stuck.   I thought it was a simple, yet fun sketch because it was a little off center (like me!).  I used Silver Glimmer Paper as an accent.  It is hard to see with a photograph but the All Is Calm Designer Series Paper in Lost Lagoon is very pretty with the sparkly silver paper.  The sentiments are from the stamp set called Four You and A Dozen Thoughts.  Both of these sets are in the Annual Catalog.

Flower Patch Curves

Flower Patch

Well, WordPress decided to change the way they do things.  I know I am a fairly new blogger (it has been almost two years) but after figuring out how things work, they decided to change it up.  So please excuse me if my posts do odd things.  I haven’t figured it out quite yet.

I used Photopolymer Stamp Set called Flower Patch to make this card.  First I cut out a curve with a piece of heavy cardstock (I actually used the backing that comes with our Designer Series Paper).  Then I traced the curve onto a piece of Whisper White and Coastal Cabana and carefully cut them out so they would match.  I thought it came out pretty well considering and am not very good at cutting things out.

By The Tide

By The TideDo you need a masculine birthday card?  The stamp set called By The Tide is a terrific set to use if you do.  It has a fish, lobster, shell and seahorse (among other things).  I can’t really imagine sending a birthday card to a woman that has a live looking fish on it.  I know that is a very sexist thing to say and I know there are a lot of women out there that fish but that doesn’t mean they want a birthday card with one on it.   I try not to send a birthday card with flowers on it to the men in my life either.   Now, my brother in law, Howie is a avid fisherman and he would love this card.  I’ll have to save it for him.  Happy early (or late) birthday, Howie.

Now, don’t go throwing things at me.

Summer Silhouettes

Summer Silhouettes, A Dozen ThoughtsNo one likes the idea of having to send a sympathy card but sometimes you need to whether you like it or not.  Summer Silhouettes is a great stamp set to use for this kind of card.  I am so happy that this set is carrying over to the new Annual Catalog because it is such a pretty set.  I love the trellis stamp as well as all the two-step stamping flowers.  A two-step stamp is one where you can use two stamps to make it whole.  One stamp might be a stem and the other is the flower.  For this card I used the leaves and the flowers.  I rounded the corners of the card using my Envelope Punch Board. Not only does it make great envelopes, but it can be used as a corner rounder too!  The sentiment is from A Dozen Thoughts.

Herringbone Design

Herringbone

Do you have a ton of left over scraps of cardstock and Designer Series Paper?  Here is a great way to use up some of those scraps.  This is called a Herringbone design and it is very easy to do.  Instead of throwing those small pieces away, you can use for something like this.  For this card I used the Color Collection Designer Series Paper Stacks in Brights.  One of the reasons I love this paper is you get 4 sheets of different designs in every color Stampin’ Up! offers.  That is 40 sheets of 12 x 12 Designer Series Paper for $21.95.  It is an awesome value!  There are even stacks for the In-Colors!

The stamp set I used is called A Dozen Thoughts which is a very versatile set.  It has a sentiment for just about every thought out there.  I love sets that can be used over and over.

A Simple Birthday Card With Bling

DSC01993

Sometimes you just have to have bling.  Everyone likes a little sparkle every now and then and not only on New Years or Christmas.  To add a little bling to my card, I used the Silver 1/8″ Ribbon from the Occasion Catalog.  I know it is hard to see from the picture but this ribbon has sparkle!  It is really very pretty in person.  Then I added Rhinestones to the Petite Petals Punch to add even more bling.  The sentiment is from A Dozen Thoughts which as a saying for just about every occasion you celebrate.  Every one has a different font, making it a fun set to own.

Freshly Made Sketches Fine Feathers

Fine Feathers

I have not participated in a sketch challenge in a while so I decided to play along with Freshly Made Sketches this week.  Here is this week’s sketch:

FMS+Final+129-001

For this sketch I used the stamp set called Fine Feathers.  It is a really cute set that has five different kinds of feathers.  I used three of them on this card.  The button I made using the Stampin’ Up! Simply Pressed Clay and the Buttons $ Blossoms Simply Pressed Clay Molds.   I also decided to use the Designer Series Paper called Sweet Sorbet from the Sale-A-Bration catalog.  This paper is free with a qualifying purchase but is only available for two more days!  Place a $50 order on or before March 31st and pick out a free item from the Sale-A-Bration catalog!

Do you need a quick and easy card?  Use Washi Tape!  It makes it so easy to add some color to a card and it is so easy to apply.  This Washi Tape, is from the 2014 Stampin Up! Occasions Catalog and is part of the Retro Fresh Suite.  It uses the colors Tangerine Tango, Coastal Cabana, So Saffron and Baked Brown Sugar.  The suite has Designer Series Paper, a journal, and stickers that all go together.  It literally took about 5 minutes to make this card.  The sentiment is from A Dozen Thoughts.  The arrow and the little tiny heart in the corner are from a Photopolymer Stamp set called Show & Tell 2.  Photopolymer Stamps are great for placing a stamp exactly where you need it because they are clear.

Flower Shop & Petite Petals

DSC01892

Today is my sister Katherine’s birthday.  She is my oldest sister.  I actually have two sisters, both of which look nothing like me.  It is hard to believe that 3 children from the same parents can look totally different from each other.  I am talking build, hair color & texture, eye color, height, weight and personality.  If I didn’t know for a fact that we all grew up in the same household, I would say it was not possible.

Today’s card shows you the difference between the stamp set called Flower Shop and the set called Petite Petals.  The flowers look a like, but obviously one is much smaller than the other.  For this reason, they go well together.  Both of them having matching punches (Pansy Punch and Petite Petals Punch) and you get save 15% by buying them in a Bundle (Flower Shop Bundle and Petite Petals Bundle).

Happy Birthday, Katherine.  I hope you have a terrific day!
