Saying Goodbye (Again) To By The Tide

By The Tide

By The Tide is another stamp set that is retiring on June 1st.  Sigh.  I have always liked this set. The lobster and sea horse are adorable.  The fish is a little scary looking but I still like it.  It is one of those fish that you would not want to encounter in the water.  I am sure it is more afraid of me than I am of it, but that doesn’t make it any easier. It is a fun set to use and I have used it many times to make a masculine card.

I used on of the new In Colors to make this card.  It is called Dapper Denim.  It is a beautiful blue that is somewhere in-between Night of Navy and Island Indigo.

Tomorrow is the last day to purchase anything on the Retirement List.  After that the new catalog starts and all those items on that list are gone for good.  Don’t miss out on your favorites!

If you would like a copy of the new catalog, feel free to contact me.  If you live in my area you can come pick one up for free.  If you would like it mailed to you, you will just need to pay for the postage.  You won’t want to miss this catalog.  It is awesome!  Two more days!

Happy Birthday Sam

By The Tide

Today is my son, Sam’s birthday.  I am sure I have mentioned him a lot in this blog but most of you will know him when I tell you that he is Madelyn’s father.  I can hear you all say “Oh yeah.  We all know Madelyn!”.  Poor Sam.  Rob and I love him so much but right now Madelyn is our pride and joy!  Sam is actually an awesome son.  He is presently doing his fellowship to become a Cardiologist.  He has less than a year to finish that and then he has two years to train in Intervention.  In a couple of years, if you need a couple of stints or something let me know.  I’ll give you his number!

To made this card I used the stamp set called By The Tide.  It is in the Annual Catalog.  I stamped the plants in Night of Navy ink.  Then I took some more ink and sponged the bottom of the card to make it look a little darker.  I stamped the fish in Pear Pizzazz on Very Vanilla and also sponged them with Crumb Cake because they looked so bright.

Happy birthday, Sam.  We are so proud of you!

Craft Project Central Sketch Challenge

Buffy is part of a group of very talented artists that design for Craft Project Central.  She was telling me the other day about the sketch challenge they host on their blog so I decided to take a look.  This is what this month’s challenge is:

056-768x994

I thought it was kind of a cute sketch so I made a card using it.

By The Tide

I realized after I made this and took the picture that I forgot to add a couple of things to my card that were in the sketch challenge but I am hoping that is ok.

I used the stamp set called By The Tide.  It is a set that has been around a while and I hope it stays for a while longer.  It is a great set for making a masculine card.  The Designer Series Paper I used is called Going Places and is in the 2016 Occasions Catalog.  Lastly, the “happy birthday” stamp is from the February Paper Pumpkin kit.  It just happen to fit perfectly in that spot.

You can check out the other creations on Craft Project Central HERE.

By The Tide Thank You

By The Tide

I needed a thank you card for a man.  We all know how hard that is.  There are only so many sets you can use.  You can’t have ribbon or bows.  You can’t have buttons or bling.  It has to be “manly” colors.  It is a tough thing to do.

I decided to get my an old stamp set (but still current) called By The Tide.  Actually, I hope this set never retires.  I was sad when By The Seashore retired but at least we still had this one.  Of course, if you have been reading my blog for any length of time you will know that I am always sad when stamp sets retire.  The Designer Series Paper I used for this card is from the Neutrals Color Collection and the sentiment is from the stamp set called One Big Meaning.  Everyone should own this set.  It thanks people seven different ways.  It is all you ever need for thank you cards.

I went to visit Madelyn last weekend.  I hadn’t seen her for a little over a month.  I was so surprised at how much she has grown!  The best part is she has the greatest smile.  Rob and I picked her up at day care and when she saw us she had the biggest smile on her face.  It was awesome!

Paper Craft Crew Challenge PCCCS151

I haven’t participated in a challenge lately so I thought I would look for one.  I came across the Paper Craft Crew Challenge (actually some friends of mine are part of the design team) and thought I would make a card using this sketch.

PCCCS106-160-016-300x300Here is my card:

By The Tide, PCCC151

I used the stamp set called By The Tide.  It has been around for a while but I still love it.  I didn’t follow the sketch exactly but I hope it is close enough.  I couldn’t figure out what to use for the three little flowers so I just left them off.  Then I decided it was a masculine card so I didn’t put a ribbon on it either.  The sentiment is from Petite Pairs and I cut it out using a new Framelit from the set called Tags & Labels.

By The Tide

By The TideDo you need a masculine birthday card?  The stamp set called By The Tide is a terrific set to use if you do.  It has a fish, lobster, shell and seahorse (among other things).  I can’t really imagine sending a birthday card to a woman that has a live looking fish on it.  I know that is a very sexist thing to say and I know there are a lot of women out there that fish but that doesn’t mean they want a birthday card with one on it.   I try not to send a birthday card with flowers on it to the men in my life either.   Now, my brother in law, Howie is a avid fisherman and he would love this card.  I’ll have to save it for him.  Happy early (or late) birthday, Howie.

Now, don’t go throwing things at me.

By The Tide Birthday

By The Tide

By The Tide is a great set to use for masculine cards.  It is my “go to” set when I need to make a man a card.  My boys actually like my cards.  They especially like them when there is money in them.  I am not sure they actually look at the card or read what is inside the card.  I will have to pay better attention next time I give them one.  As long as I am a Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator, my boys will get a card from me!

Freshly Made Sketches & Sneak Peeks

DSC01786

Here is the sketch for this week’s Freshly Made Sketches.

FMS+Final+116-001

I decide to use the stamp set called By The Tide.  I love that little seahorse as well as the other stamps in this set.  There are a few sneak peeks from the Occasions Catalog in this card.  I used the On Film Framelits for the frame around the seahorses.  It is a great set of framelits that include a “Polaroid” frame, a camera and some arrows.  The hello stamp is from Perfect Pennants and was cut out using the Banners Framelits.  Both of these items are also in the new catalog that comes out January 3, 2014.  The last sneak peek is from the 2014 Sale-a-bration catalog.  It is a banner punch and can be yours for free with a qualifying purchase during Sale-a-bration!

Get Well By The Tide

DSC01418

I always have a hard time making masculine cards so I have been trying to work on this.  Men like cards, don’t they?  Maybe but maybe not.  In any case, some of the men in my family get cards whether they like them or not.  The other thing I vowed to do this year is stop being a paper hoarder.  I love Designer Series Paper but I always have such a hard time cutting into it.  This card satisfies both issues.

The stamps sets I used to make this card are called By The Tide and Delightful Dozen.  Then I added the Candy Dots.  At first I did not put the Candy Dots in Chocolate Chip from the Neutrals set on the card, but decided it still needed something.  Below is a picture without them.  Don’t you think they really add something to the card?

The third card we did at our monthly Club meeting used the stamp set called By The Tide.  It is an adorable set that has a fish, seaweed, a seahorse, a lobster and a few other stamps.  I thought the Rhinestones looked like little bubbles.  If you notice, I did not put a sentiment on this card.  Sometimes you need a card for a specific reason and you don’t have any made up in advance so it is a good thing to have a few that can be generic.  The banner is made out of the new 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon in Marina Mist and the background of the card was made using the Chevron Embossing Folder.
