Watercooler Challenge WCC23

It is that time again for another Watercooler Challenge.  This time Marsha gave us this picture to use as inspiration for our creations.47a5dd28b3127cce98548a6519e20000003810wAbsWbFozaNGbUAYou could use the colors, the flowers or the idea of spring for your card.  I chose to use flowers (gee, I bet that is a surprise!).  Here is my card:

Painted Petals

I used the stamp set in the 2015 Occasions Catalog called Painted Petals.  The really nice thing about this set is you can get it in your choice of wood mount, clear mount or Photopolymer.  It is a two-step stamp set so I chose to get it in Photopolymer because you can see exactly where you are stamping.  That makes it so easy to line up.

bokah

This week’s Watercooler Challenge is from Heidi and is a watercolor background challenge. I decided to use the technique called Bokeh (Boh-kay).  According to Wikipedia, Bokeh is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. Bokeh has been defined as “the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light”.

This technique was very easy to produce.  I used the Aqua Painters and dipped them into ink (Bermuda Bay, Old Olive and Wisteria Wonder).  Then I just painted these colors onto Shimmery White Cardstock in a random pattern.  I used Shimmery White instead of Watercolor Paper because it is smoother and easier to stamp on.  Then I punched various sizes of circles out of cardstock and used the the “holes” as a mask.  I used Whisper White Ink and dabbed it onto the cardstock using a sponge.  This effect makes it looked “blurred”.

I used the Hello You Thinlits to make the word “happy”.  I actually cut it out three times and layered them on top of each other to give it a little depth.

Here is the picture we were given to base our cards on.

One Layer Card For a Workshop

Kinda Eclectic

I did a workshop for the first time in a long time last month.  It was a small group and a few of them had never stamped before.  I needed to demo a card so I thought a one layer card would be perfect.  It would show them how easy it is to make a card even if all you have are some stamps, ink and cardstock.  Of course, I did step it up just a bit at the end and added the butterfly.  Honestly, they all went oooh  and aaah and talked about how easy it was.  I guess I did my job!  I used the stamp set called Kinda Eclectic.  I love this set because it does have so many unconnected images that all go so well together.  What is keeping you from stamping?  All you need is a few stamps, ink and cardstock to start!Blog Signature-001

A Bright & Beautiful Christmas

Bright & Beautiful, Striped Scallop

In case you didn’t know, Christmas is just around the corner.  You really need to be working on those cards in order to get them out on time.  Of course, some people mail their Christmas cards after the 25th.  I have a cousin who does.  I am not sure why, but she does it every year.  Maybe she figures her card will get lost with all the other cards being sent.

I made this Christmas card using a stamp set from the Holiday Catalog called Bright and Beautiful.  This set has matching Star Framelits so you don’t need to cut out any stars.  Your Big Shot will do it for you!  The half circles are actually part of a Thinlit called Striped Scallop.  I love this Thinlits but you have to remember to use waxed paper between the die and the cardstock so the cut cardstock comes out easily.

Lovely As A Tree Christmas

Lovely As A Tree

Is there anyone left who has known about Stampin’ Up! who does not have the stamp set called Lovely As A Tree?  It has been around the longest of any set and is one of Shelli’s (the founder of Stampin’ Up!) favorites.  She told us a couple of years ago that she will never let it retire.  We will see.  She also told us we would never get Photopolymer stamps and that is not true anymore.  So if you don’t have this set, you really need to get it before it does go (if it goes).

In any case, I embossed three of the trees from this stamp set with Cherry Cobbler Embossing Powder and twice in Gold Embossing Powder.  The sentiment is from Many Merry Stars which is in the Holiday Supplement Catalog.

Flower Patch

Flower Patch

Happy December 1st!  You do remember there is only 24 days left until Christmas, right?  You need to at least get started!

Speaking of Christmas, this card is the total opposite!  I love Christmas, but there does reach a point where you need to take a break and think warmth and sunshine.  This card reminds me of warmth and sunshine since we don’t have any flowers growing at the moment.  This card would be a great card to use during the winter months because it just might cheer someone up!  It uses the stamp set called Flower Patch which has matching Framelits called Flower Fair.  You can save 15% by buying it in a bundle!  I hope it warms you up just a bit!

A Very Simple Thank You

All Is Calm, Four You

I made this card using a sketch I found online.  If you want (or need) to make a card but can’t figure out where to start, go online and look for card sketches.  It really helps me when I get stuck.   I thought it was a simple, yet fun sketch because it was a little off center (like me!).  I used Silver Glimmer Paper as an accent.  It is hard to see with a photograph but the All Is Calm Designer Series Paper in Lost Lagoon is very pretty with the sparkly silver paper.  The sentiments are from the stamp set called Four You and A Dozen Thoughts.  Both of these sets are in the Annual Catalog.

Festival Of Trees Birthday Card

Festival Of Trees

Here is another card I made using the “Christmas” stamp set called Festival Of Trees.  The thing I love about this is you can really use it year round.  All you need to do is change the colors a bit and it becomes a birthday card!  This stamp set is in the Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog.  It also has a matching punch called Tree Punch and you can save 15% by buying both!

If you like this set, remember, there is only about a month left before it is gone.  Occasionally the merchandise in the smaller catalogs appear in the annual catalog but not usually Christmas sets so if you like it, you need to order it soon.
