Garden Birdhouses

Garden Birdhouses is another stamp set that is in the Stampin’ Up!® 2021/2022 Annual Catalog that has been ignored by me since the 2021 June – December Mini Catalog came out. Every time a new catalog comes out, I seem to ignore the other ones. Then I start going through my stamp sets to find one I want to use and all of a sudden I see sets that have not been used in a long time.

I have a bird feeder in my back yard that I really enjoy watching. In Nashville we have some different birds here that did not live in New York. The good thing is we have cardinals in both places. Cardinals are my favorite. They are just so beautiful. The thing is these crazy birds eat my bird food like crazy. In New York I had to fill the feeder every 4-5 days. In Nashville, I have to fill it every other day. Yes, there are a lot more cardinals here but they didn’t seem to eat so much when I first put it out in September. Rob kept saying because there was more food in September for birds than now. Well, I was just thinking these birds here are crazy, big pigs. Until this morning. This morning I woke up and there were three deer in my yard eating from the feeder! Well no wonder it was getting empty so quickly. I will have to apologize to my cardinals for blaming them.

To make this card I first stamped the branches in Granny Apple Green Ink on a 3.5″ x 4.75″ piece of Basic White card stock Then I stamped the birdhouse and the birds in Memento Black Ink and colored them using Stampin’ Up!® Blends. Then I stamped the sentiment in the bottom corner. I layered that on top of a piece of Pattern Party Designer Series Paper. This DSP is in the back of the 2021/2022 Annual Catalog. You can not buy it for $18 with qualifying order. It has a whopping 48 sheets in it! One side is black and white and the other side had beautiful, bright colors and patterns. The card base is Daffodil Delight.

Garden Birdhouses

Stampin Up Garden Birdhouses

I love birds and bird feeders.  I have hummingbird feeders in Nashville and at the cottage.  Unfortunately, we did not get a single hummingbird in Nashville.  I am not really sure why.  I looked at the migration maps and put out the feeder when they were near our area but I did not have a single one.  Thankfully, I have them at the cottage.  They are so much fun to watch.  They bicker and fight and chirp at each other and sometimes act crazy.  I love watching them.

I also love cardinals.  I buy the Black Oil Sunflower seeds for them in Nashville.  I don’t put out bird feeders with seed at the cottage because I read they attract rats, and well, as much as I love cardinals, I dislike rats more so I only enjoy them in Nashville.  Only this year it was a bit crazy.  There were tons of cardinals, grossbeaks, blue jays, etc but the feeder attracted the craziest squirrels I have ever seen.  They were such pigs and made a big mess.  There was a family of them.  You could tell there were at least two young ones.  When I did not fill the feeder in time, they would come up the deck and scratch at our door trying to get into the house.  Then they started climbing the window screens and I thought they would break them.  I have to say this freaked me out a bit.  I ended up taking the feeder down the last month we were there.  Hopefully, next year there won’t be any baby squirrels around.

Anyway, this is one of the reasons I purchased this stamp set called Garden Birdhouses.  I thought it was fun and quirky.  To make this card, I first stamped everything in Memento Black Ink.  Then I used a very large variety of Stampin’ Up! Blends to color them.  The colors includes, Balmy Blue, So Saffron, Pale Papaya, Pumpkin Pie, Fresh Freesia, Mint Macaron and Highland Heather.  Oh yes, and Soft Suede for the posts and Smoky Slate for the birds.  I stamped the grass using Soft Succulent ink.  Then I used a Water Painter to add some Balmy Blue ink to the background.

Wish me luck next year with those crazy squirrels!
