Inspiring Iris

Here is another birthday card I made for someone I met through Stampin’ Up!®.  Jackie is part of the BS & J Productions and our Stamp Off Challenges so you all know her.  Jackie and I met online through a forum that is for Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators only.  We have never met in person but I feel like we have been great friends for years.  If you are interested in joining my Stampin Up! family, just send me an email or click on the Join Now button to the right of this post.

To make this card I used the stamp set called Inspiring Iris.  This stamp set is a two step set which means it takes two or more stamps to make an image.  In this case the stems and the leaves are two different stamps.  There is also a stamp that outlines the images but I did not use it on this card.  I used Petal Pink and Granny Apple Green inks.  The background is from a piece of 6″ x 6″ InColors Designer Series Paper in Terracotta Tile.  I cut out the Iris using a die from the Stitched Rectangles and then another piece in Petal Pink cardstock.  The sentiment is from Itty Bitty Birthdays.  As you can tell, I use this set a lot.

Happy birthday, Jackie.  I hope you had a terrific day!

Inspiring Iris

Iris are one of my favorite flowers.  They just seem so elegant and beautiful.  I have tried to grow them many times but our house just doesn’t get enough sun and I think some of the critters who live in the woods might be eating the bulbs.  I plant them and they halfway grow and the next spring there are no bulbs to be found.

Every time Stampin’ Up!® comes out with a stamp set that have Iris in it, I have to purchase it.  I really like the new Iris stamp set called Inspiring Iris that is in the 2019/2020 Annual Catalog because it is a two-step stamp set.  This means it take two or more stamps to make one image.  The stamps are Photopolymer so they are clear and easy to line up.

I decided I wanted this card to have a watercolor look since I have been taking some online watercoloring classes.  I ordered a couple of kits from the web site called Let’s Make Art this summer and have been following along with their videos.  Sara (the woman who teaches the watercolor classes) is adorable and makes it look so easy.  Anyway, my watercolor paintings look kind of pathetic.  I decided that using stamps to watercolor is so much easier.   In any case, I decided not to use the outline of the flowers and leaves and just use the inside stamps.  This gave the card a softer look.

I first stamped the leaves in Granny Apple Green three times.  Then I stamped the flowers in Highland Heather ink.  The sentiment is from the stamp set called Band Together and I stamped it in Memento Black Ink.
