After having a fabulous week with kids and grandkids, it is time for me to get back to my stamp room.  I feel like I haven’t seen it in months but it has only been about ten days.  I haven’t even had much of a chance to play with some new products from the new July – December Mini Catalog and the Sale-a-bration Catalog!

I made this card a few weeks ago using the Hello Ladybug stamp set and the coordinating Ladybug Builder Punch.  These products were in a previous catalog so you can no longer order them in a bundle but you can get them using separate item numbers.  I decided I wanted to make a card using them with non-traditional colors.

I first stamped the background leaves in a random pattern using Soft Sea Foam ink.  I layered that piece onto a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Fresh Freesia card stock and a Pool Party card base.  Next, I stamped the parts of the ladybugs in Pale Papaya, Fresh Freesia and Pool Party ink and punched them out using the Ladybug Builder Punch.  I adhered them together using Multipurpose Glue and then adhered them to the card using Dimensionals. I stamped the sentiment in Fresh Freesia, cut it out using the Layering Circles Dies and added it to the card using a Dimensional.  Lastly, I added a few Glossy Dots.

I love the Hello Ladybug stamp set and the coordinating punch called Ladybug Builder Punch.  It is in the Stampin’ Up!® 2022 January – June Mini Catalog but I am happy to say that it is being carried over into the 2022/2023 Annual Catalog.  The only thing is the 10% bundle savings will not be available when the Mini Catalog retires on June 30th.  If you like this set and want to order it is better to do so now then wait so you can take advantage of the discount.

I have to say I can not take credit for turning the ladybug into a bee.  I saw many cards doing this so I can’t give credit to whomever first came up with it, but I thought it was brilliant and decided to make a card using it this way.  One of the things I did do differently was to punch her wings out using Vellum.  Now, I am sure there are others who did this but when I made this card I did not see any so I thought this was a very clever idea!

To make this card I first cut three 1.5″ x 3.75″ pieces of the Sweet Symmetry Designer Series Paper and layered them on a 4″ x 5.25″ of Basic White card stock and a Bumble Bee card base.  Before I forget, Bumble Bee is one of the InColors that will be retiring on May 3rd.

After doing this I punched out the body of the bee in Basic Black card stock using the Ladybug Builder Punch.  Then I cut out small strips of Bumble Bee card stock and adhered them on the body of the bee.  I punched out the wings using Vellum and attached them to the bee.  I punched out two daisies using the Medium Daisy Punch in Flirty Flamingo card stock and the center in Bumble Bee.  I stamped the leaf in Granny Apple Green ink and cut it out using the Layering Circles Dies.  I also cut out a larger Bumble Bee circle. Lastly I stamped the sentiment in Memento Black Ink.

I have been trying to diversify my stamp set collection lately.  I think that at least 75% of the sets I own are flowers.  I love flowers.  They are still my favorite but I have been purchasing things I would not normally purchase.  One reason is because of my grandchildren.  I am hoping someday they will show an interest in making cards with me so I need to be ready when that day happens.  Therefore, I ended up purchasing the Hello Ladybug stamp set and the coordinating Ladybug Builder Punch.  By the way, you can save 10% if you purchase them in a bundle.

I decided to use the ladybugs in their traditional colors of red and black.  Therefore, I first punched out the ladybug body in Basic Black card stock and her wings in Real Red.  Now, for some reason this just popped into my head but ladybugs can not all be female, can they?  Sounds like a Google question.  In any case, after I punched them out, I stamped the polka dots on her wings using Memento Black Ink.  I adhered them together using Multipurpose Glue.  Then I took a Basic White card base and layered a 4″ x 5.25″ piece of Real Red card stock.  Now, here is a hint.  I punched the ladybug wings out of that same piece of Real Red cardstock because I was layering a piece of Pattern Party Designer Series Paper on top.  No one will ever know I cut those wings out of the middle of that piece.  It is a great way to save some money. Next I cut a 2 1/8″ x 5″ piece of Real Red card stock and a 2″ x 4 7/8″ piece of Basic White.  I layered the ladybugs on top using Dimensionals.  I stamped the sentiment in Memento Black ink.  Lastly, I added the Matte Black Dots.

So I had to Google whether or not all ladybugs are female.  This is what I found

Do the guys mind being called “ladybugs”? Since they don’t speak our language, we suppose not.”

I thought it was a cute way of answering the question.  Now you know!
