Hexagon Hive Petals

Hexagon Hive, Petite Petals, Circle MonogramToday is my Mother In Law’s birthday.  She is 86 years old and is as spry as can be at that age.  I wanted to send her a bright birthday card to brighten her day so I though a nice Basic Black and Very Vanilla card with a pop of color (Strawberry Slush) would work.  The Designer Series Paper I used is called Modern Medley and is retiring at the end of this month.

If you look at the sentiment and try to find it in the catalog you won’t be able to.  That is because it is a Photopolymer Circle Monogram Stamp that I designed.  It is so easy to do.  You just put in the item number and another window pops up where you write whatever you want your stamp to say.  I love it.  This is not carrying over into the next catalog.  It is not in this catalog so I am not sure of the fate of it yet.  If you like it, I would order it before June 1st just in case it is no longer available then.

I also used Hexagon Hive for the background and Petite Petals for the flowers.

Happy Birthday Dorothy!

Starburst Sayings Meets Modern Medley

Starburst Sayings, Modern Medley

Starburst Sayings is a stamp set in the Occasions Catalog.  It has a matching set of Framelits called Starburst.  If you purchase both in a Bundle you can save 15%.  One of the nice things about this set is that it is going to carry over into the new Annual Catalog that starts June 2nd!  Although it is in the new catalog it will not have a Bundle Price so if you like this set you should buy it before the Occasions Catalog expires on June 1st.  Actually all the Bundles in the Occasions Catalog will expire on this date.  Some of the stamp sets and Framelits will be carried over but again, the bundle pricing will not.

The background for this card is Designer Series Paper called Modern Medley.  This paper will not carry over into the new catalog (as most Designer Series Paper does not).

Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop

FebruarySaleabrationBlogHop
Welcome to my first ever blog hop!  For those of you who do not know what a blog hop is, it is where a group of Stampin Up! demonstrators make projects based on a theme and the viewer goes from blog to blog to see everyone’s projects.  You probably just came from Jean’s amazing blog.  Her projects are always gorgeous!

Why the Wacky Watercooler Blog Hop?  If you are a Stampin Up! demonstrator you have access to a forum called Stampin Connection where only demonstrators can enter.  On that forum is a thread called the Wacky Women’s Watercooler.  It is basically a thread where we talk about anything and everything (except business!).  The demonstrators who go there the most decided to do a blog hop a few months ago.  I could never participate because I was usually out of town on the dates they picked but this time I am home and here (although a little nervous!).

This hop’s theme is about the products in the Sale-a-bration and Occasions Catalogs.  The first card I made is a wedding card.  You could probably use it for just about any holiday or event (well maybe not a masculine birthday card).  Just change the sentiment from Teeny Tiny Wishes and it becomes whatever you want.  The card uses the Spiral Flower Originals Die that is in the Occasions Catalog.  It is so easy to make a flower using this die.  It is a Bigz die so you can cut up to 4 pieces of cardstock at a time.  I didn’t have a black brad so I decided to dip a brad from Antique Brads in Versamark and then Black Embossing Powder and heated it up with my Heat Tool.  The Designer Series Paper is called Modern Medley and is in the Annual Catalog.

The next project(s) I made used the Scalloped Tag Topper Punch which is in the Occasion Catalog.  I actually saw this technique on Pinterest and fell in love with it.  I had to figure out how to make it but it wasn’t hard to do.  If you look closely, the “tag toppers” are all one piece with the card.  Of course, I decorated it differently then the card I saw, making it my own.  I actually made two of them, one has the tabs on the side and one has them in the middle.  Both cards use the Designer Series Paper in the Sale-a-bration Catalog called Sweet Sorbet. You can’t buy this paper but you can get it for free with a qualifying purchase.  I love the colors of this paper.  I used the stamp sets called Perfect Pennants and Chalk Talk for these cards.

The last card I made uses the Sale-a-bration stamp set called Banner Blast and the matching Banner Punch.  You can not purchase these items right now but you can get them for free with a qualifying purchase.  The card also uses the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder that is also in the Sale-a-bration Catalog.  By the way, the Banner Punch and the Decorative Dots Embossing Folder will be available for purchase in the 2014/2015 Annual Catalog that comes out in June but you can only earn the Banner Blast Stamp Set through a qualifying purchase.  The Birthday Wishes stamp is from Four You.

Well I hope you enjoyed my projects for the Blog Hop!  Now hop on over to Heidi’s blog to see her amazing projects!  If you get lost along the way you can click on one of these blog buttons.  The “Next” Button will take you to the next blog (Heidi’s).  The “Previous” button will take you back to Jean’s Blog and the Home Button will take you to the home web page where all the blogs and their addresses are listed.

Peaceful Petals & Freshly Made Sketches

DSC01840

This is my entry for Freshly Made Sketches #119.  I used a stamp set called Peaceful Petals that is in the 2013 Occasions Catalog.    I embossed it with Black Embossing Powder and then cut it out using the 2 1/2″ Circle Punch.  The background paper is called Modern Medley Designer Series Paper.  It is one of the few papers that uses Very Vanilla instead of Whisper White.

I can’t stress enough how easy it is to make a card when someone else has given you the layout.  All you need to do is change it to use your own stamps and papers.  You don’t have to enter any contests to use a sketch.  Sometimes I enter my card and sometimes I don’t.  It is just a great way to just get ideas to make my own card.

Here is the sketch for this week:

Hearts A Flutter Valentine

DSC01829

The is the third card we made at our Club meeting in January.  I know it seems a little early to be making Valentine cards but Valentines Day is only a little more than a month away.  Around the 12th of February you will be wishing you had started earlier.  Remember all those Christmas card nudges I was giving you back in November?  Remember how you wished you had started then instead of waiting until December 20th to start your cards?  Ok.  Enough nagging!

This card was made using two stamp sets.  The first one is called Heats A Flutter.  Although I did not use them, this set has matching Framelits.    The second stamp set is called That’s the Ticket and has a matching punch called Ticket Duo Builder.  The Designer Series Paper is called Modern Medley and comes in Basic Black and Very Vanilla.

Having A Modern Tea Party

DSC01411

I know some (or I should say most) of you are coffee drinkers but there are still a few tea drinkers in this world.  I am one of those people.  Actually, I have never had a cup of coffee in my life.  I think it was because my parents were not coffee drinkers because my two sisters don’t drink it either.

I made this card using the stamp set called Tea Party.  The Designer Series Paper is called Modern Medley and is Basic Black and Very Vanilla.  The picture in the catalog makes it look black and white but it really is not.  The ribbon is 3/8″ Ruffle Sretch Trim in Coastal Cabana.

Gift Bow Bigz L Die Card

DSC01358

In the Stampin Up! Holiday Catalog they have a new die that makes two sizes of bows.  It is called the Gift Bow Bigz L Die and is so easy to use.  I made the bow for this card using it with the Designer Series Paper called Modern Medley.  Designer Series Paper is perfect for this Big Shot die because it has a different design on each side.  You can make cards that have bows on them or you can decorate packages and use it to make your own bow.  The bow on this card is the smaller of the two.  The other one is quite large and would look beautiful on a package.  It is just another way to add a small personal touch to your gifts.

Chalk Talk Modern Medley

DSC01281

This was a quick and easy card to make when you are short on time.  I used the Designer Series Paper called Modern Medley.  Every sheet is Basic Black and Very Vanilla and it has mosaics, newsprint, musical notes, stripes and polka dots.  The 1″ Stitched Edge Grosgrain Ribbon is from the Holiday Catalog and is so nice to work with.  It is Cherry Cobbler and has a little white trim on both sides.  Although It is grosgrain it feels softer so is easy to tie in a knot.  The stamp set is called Chalk Talk (you probably already know that since I used it quite often!) and has matching Framelits (save 15% by buying the Bundle!)
