Butterfly Basics Sympathy Card

No one likes to have to send a sympathy card but sometimes you have to so I try to keep a couple on hand.  I made this card using a couple of different stamp sets.  The flowers are from Butterfly Basics.  This stamp set has been around for a little while but it hasn’t seen any ink in a long time.  You know how it is.  I get new stamp sets that I am so excited about and those poor older sets sit there on the shelf so lonely and sad.  This past month I have been trying to get out those sets.  They made me happy once and they still make me happy!

The sentiment is from Rose Wonder, another older lonely set.  This set has some great sentiments that can be used for most every occasion.  It has wedding, birthday, thank you and sympathy sentiments in it.  I love sets that can be so versatile.

The embossing folder is from the 2017 Holiday Catalog and is called Quilt Top.  Although the stamp set called Christmas Quilt and the Quilt Builder dies are retiring, this embossing folder is not.  By the way, don’t forget this is the last week you will be able to buy some of the products in the Holiday Catalog because they will be retiring on January 2nd. Rose Wonder and Stampin’ Blends

Rose Wonder is a stamp set that is perfect to use with the new Stamping’ Blends from Stampin’ Up!.  One of the images in this set is this very large flower which is just calling to be colored.  The only issue is, I think I might have stamped this upside down.  After I made this card I saw another one similar to it and the flower was facing the other way.  Oops!

As you know, you don’t see a lot of coloring on my blog.  I am just not very good at it so I tend to stay away.  The new Stampin’ Blends are so easy to use that anyone can color.  Even I can!  These Blends come in 12 exclusive Stampin’ Up! colors plus Ivory and Bronze for skin colors and a Color Lifter to help lighten the ink if needed.

I colored the rose in the Light and Dark Calypso Coral Blends.  I choose this color because it reminds me of my father’s favorite rose called Tropicana.  My father could grow the most beautiful roses ever.  I tried to do it where I live but the winters are just too cold and the rose bushes ended up dying every year.  Of course, the first time I went to buy a rose bush from a nursery, I looked at all of them and they looked just like dead sticks.  I was thinking what the heck is wrong with this nursery that they are trying to sell dead rose bushes.  When I got home Rob asked me where the roses were and I told him how all of them looked dead.  He laughed, of course.  All rose bushes look like dead sticks in the spring.  Ok, so sometimes I am not the brightest light bulb in the pack!

Throwback Thursday With Rose Wonder

This is one of the cards we made at our monthly club meeting.  It uses a technique that was really popular a few years ago.  I am sure this technique has a name other than watercoloring but I can’t remember what it was called.  In any case, it is still a lot of fun to do.

This beautiful rose is part of a stamp set called Rose Wonder.  It has a set of matching Thinlits called Rose Garden although we didn’t use them for this card.

To make this first we stamped the rose stamp in Versamark on Shimmery White Cardstock and then embossed it with Clear Embossing Powder.  The Shimmery White Cardstock and a light sparkle to it and holds up to water better than regular cardstock.  We put a drop or two of ink into the top of an ink pad and then used the Aqua Painters to watercolor it.  The embossing lines keep the color inside so it doesn’t spread everywhere.  My father used to grow the most beautiful roses.  My favorite was called Tropicana.  It was a coral and yellow flower so I used So Saffron and Calypso Coral ink for my rose.  The leaves are Old Olive.

Sometimes Life Happens

Flourish Thinlits. Flourishing Phrases, Sympathy Card, Stampin Up, susanstamps.wordpress.com

A couple of weeks ago my 88 year old mother in law was having trouble breathing so we took her to the emergency room.  After about 10 days in the hospital, she passed away peacefully in her sleep.  Although it is very sad, we are grateful that she did not suffer a lot and is now reunited with my father in law and her parents.  I guess if anything good can come out of such an event, it brings families and friends who live far away together again.  My kids came home and I got to see Madelyn again.  My local friends brought us food, cards and flowers.  It always amazes me how wonderful people can be in a stressful and sad time and I appreciate each and every one of them.  We will all miss my mother in law but we are so thankful for every one who helped us through this difficult time. Blog Signature-001 Product List

A Stamp Off Challenge Of Layers

Stamp Off Logo Clean

It is my favorite day of the week and time for another Stamp Off Challenge.  This week our challenge is called Lots Of Layers where we have to use, well, lots of layers!  SO Lots of Layers Challenge

Here is my card:

Flourish Thinlits, Rose Wonder

I am sure you are looking at this card saying to yourself, where are all the layers?  Susan cheated again.  No.  I didn’t!  The background is made from multiple die cuts from the set called Flourish Thinlits.  It almost looks like an embossing folder but it isn’t.  I think some call it “Faux Embossing” for that reason.  I had to cut out 6 or 7 of the largest die and piece them all together to make the design.  It took a while but I think it came out looking very elegant.  I would use it for a wedding card but I don’t know anyone getting married in the very near future.

Let’s go see what Jackie and Buffy made with this challenge.  I am sure you will love both of their projects!

You’ve Got This

You've Got This, Watercolor Wash

I actually made this card a long time ago and never posted it.  I really have a pile of cards like that, which is probably a good thing just in case I can’t find my mojo.  I always have a backup.  This cards uses a couple of the new InColors.  The flower is cut from Sweet Sugarplum and the stem is from Emerald Envy.  I have to admit that these new InColors are some of my all time favorites.  I like all of them and, as you know, I use them quite a bit.

The flower is from the stamp set is called You’ve Got This.  The sentiment is from Rose Wonder and the background is a large background stamp called Watercolor Wash.

Rose Wonder

Rose Wonder

I made this card for a black and white wedding.  Originally, I had the sentiment in black but I just felt it needed a little pop of color so I decided to use one of the new InColors from Stampin’ Up! called Sweet Sugarplum.  Then I still thought it looked a little bland so decided that since it is a card for a wedding, I would add a little sparkle to it using Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper.

I used the stamp set called Rose Wonder.  This set has matching Thinlits called Rose Garden but I didn’t use them on this card.  Instead, I stamped the rose in Whisper White Craft Ink.  This ink works great on darker cardstock.

Buffy’s Color Challenge

Buffy has a group of demonstrators that meet once a month to do projects.  She was so kind to invite me to the online portion of her group because I don’t really have an active Upline.  She gave this group of ladies a color challenge  to do.  It was to use Watermelon Wonder, Cucumber Crush and Dapper Denim.  Here is the card I made using these colors.

Mixed Borders, Swirly Scribbles

I used a new set from the 2016/2017 called Mixed Borders.  It is such a fun stamp set because it has a few border stamp sets that have a space in-between them where you can fit a sentiment.  To make the border above I stamped two of them.  One is a flower border and the other one is a leaf border.  Under the sentiment is a blank spot where I could have stamped “I hope your birthday is amazing” but I chose to put it on a tag.  By the way, the tag is from the stamp set called Rose Wonder that has a matching set of Framelits called Rose Garden Thinlits.  Then I added the swirl from Swirly Scribbles.

Rose Garden Sympathy Card

Rose Garden, Rose Wonder

No one likes to make sympathy cards but, unfortunately it is a necessary part of life.  I made this card to keep on hand but found out today that I will be sending it out.  It uses the set of Thinlits called Rose Garden and is in the 2016 Occasions Catalog.  Thankfully, it will also be in the new Annual Catalog that comes out in June.  This set of Thinlits has a matching set of stamps called Rose Garden, which will also be carried over.  If you like both of them you can save 15% by buying the Bundle.  This Bundle will no longer be available in the new catalog.

The only thing that is going to retire on this card is the Calypso Coral Seam Binding Ribbon.  All the Seam Binding ribbons are retiring so if you like them, you need to order them before they are gone for good.

A Quick & Easy Washi Tape Card

Washi Tape, Rose Wonder

Here is a quick and easy card that you can make in just a couple of minutes.  It uses the 2014-2016 In Color Designer Washi Tape.  Sadly, this Washi Tape Bundle is retiring because (even sadder) these In Colors are retiring this year.  I will miss them because I think they are awesome colors.   The good news is Stamping’ Up! will have more Washi Tape bundles in the new catalog.  In any case, you can use any Washi Tape to make this card.  You just put it along the bottom of the card and then stamp whatever sentiment you wish.  I used a stamp from the set called Rose Wonder which is in the 2015 Occasions Catalog.  Then I just put it on top of a piece of Blackberry Bliss cardstock.  I think it took me longer to decide what sentiment to use then to make the card!
