Non Traditional Christmas Color Challenge

Hello everyone. Today is another Stamp Off Challenge with Buffy, Jackie and me. This time our challenge was to make a Christmas card using non-traditional colors. I decided to go with Smoky Slate and Flirty Flamingo. That is about as non-traditional as you can do!

To make this card, I used the stamp set called So Many Stars along with the matching dies called Stitched Stars. Remember, you can save 10% until the end of this month if you buy this set in a Bundle. I know the star dies are carrying over but the stamp set is not so if you like it, now is the time to purchase it. I also used the die set called Stitched Rectangles and another called Merry Christmas. This is where the big “Merry” came from.

I first took a piece of Flirty Flamingo Designer Series Paper from the Brights 6″ x 6″ collection and layered it on top of a card base of Smoky Slate. Then I cut out the frame using the Stitched Rectangles Dies and adhered a piece of Whisper White cardstock in the middle. I stamped the star and cut it out using the Stitched Stars Dies along with all the other stars. I cut the sentiment from Smoky Slate cardstock and put it all together.

Now let’s go see what non-traditional colors Buffy and Jackie used. Using different colors was fun!

So Many Stars

This is one of the cards we made at our monthly stamp class. Lynette, who is a member of the class sends me ideas of cards and projects she wants to make. It is great help to me. Sometimes it is hard to come up with ideas for this class. Most of the ladies have been with me for almost 12 years so I am constantly looking for ideas. Anyway, Lynette sent me a picture of a card that is similar to this one but I don’t know who actually made it or I would give credit to them. I did change it up a bit but the basic design was someone else’s.

To make this card I first cut a piece of Whisper White cardstock 4.25″ x 11″ and folded it in half. Then I cut 1 1/4″ off the bottom of one side. I wanted to use the gorgeous Designer Series Paper called Feels Like Frost but the class has too many ladies in it and I would have had to purchase four packs for everyone to have a matching piece so I used retired DSP that is similar to Feels Like Frost. I layered this paper over a piece of Silver Foil Paper and attached it to the card base. All the foil sheets that Stampin’ Up!® offers are so beautiful. The also have copper, gold and champagne (a really soft gold). I find it is better to use Multipurpose glue when using the foil sheets.

I cut the stars out using the Stitched Stars dies (shhhh these dies are carrying over into the next mini catalog Yay!) in Silver Foil and Whisper White and then layered them on top of the Designer Series Paper. I stamped the sentiment from So Many Stars in Versamark and embossed it using Silver Embossing Powder. The card came out super shiny which is perfect for Christmas.

Stitched Stars Birthday Card

This is the last card we made at my September Stamp Class. It is another example of how you can take a Christmas themed stamp set and dies and use it year round. In this case we made a birthday card with them.

The fun thing about this card is I accidentally discovered a new way to use a the Patterned Party Decorative Masks (or stencils). I am sure someone other very talented Demonstrator discovered this technique way before me but I had not seen it before. I was using it the regular way where you lay the mask over cardstock sponge some ink on it. While I was doing this, I accidentally put the inky mask upside down on my Grid Paper and I noticed it left some ink in a fun pattern. I decided to try it on purpose using Seaside Spray Ink and a brayer instead of a sponge so I would get more ink on it. Then I took Pretty Peacock ink and dabbed some ink randomly around using a sponge. When this was done, I turned the Mask upside down on a piece of Whisper White cardstock and rubbed it. I think it looks kind of fun! It might be fun to try with the Mask that has clouds in it. You could make a textured looking sky with white clouds.

Anyway, after making the background I cut out two stars from the Stitched Stars Dies that are in the Stampin’ Up!® 2019 Holiday Catalog. The larger star is Pretty Peacock and the smaller one was cut out using the new Mercury Glass Designer Series Paper Acetate. As a side note, there is a piece of plaster one one side of this acetate that you need to peel off before using.

The sentiment is from Itty Bitty Birthdays and was cut out using a Stitched Rectangle Die.

Stitched Stars Ornament

This is one of the projects we made at our monthly stamping class last week. You can either use it as an ornament or a tag for a gift. It was very easy to make and didn’t take long at all.

To make the star I used a set of new dies that are in the Stampin’ Up!® 2019 Holiday Catalog called Stitched Stars. These dies have a matching stamp set called So Many Stars and you can save 10% by purchasing them in a Bundle. I didn’t use the stamp set on this project but we did use it on another that I will show you in the near future. It is appropriately called So Many Stars because the stamp set has 21 stamps and the die set has 23 dies!

I first cut a large star using Night Of Navy cardstock. Then I scored it five times as in the picture below. I drew the lines so you could see where to score easier. Then you just fold it on the score lines with the points being a mountain fold and in-between the points being a valley fold. This gives it a 3D look.

After I made the star I cut out the swirl using another one of the dies included in the Stitched Star set and Copper Foil Sheets. When you cut this out, it also cuts out various sizes of stars which I saved to add to the project. I adhered the swirl to a circle I cut out using the Stitched Shapes Dies. Then I mounted the Night Of Navy star using three Black Dimensionals on top of each other. I was so excited to see these in the Holiday Catalog. Sometimes the white Dimensionals show so the black are great.

Lastly I added a piece of White Baker’s Twine.

So Many Stars

The Stampin’ Up!® 2019 Holiday Catalog is full of wonderful products. One of my favorites (among many) is the So Many Stars Bundle. This bundle includes the So Many Stars stamp set which has 21 different stamps in and the matching dies called Stitched Stars. I love all stitched dies so this was on my first order. It has a whopping 23 dies in the set!! It is an amazing bundle.

This set was made for the Holiday Season. All the sentiments in the stamp set reflect this but I wanted to show you that it really can be used year round. I made this birthday card with it but you could also do a graduation, congratulations or really any card with it so don’t be stuck on the idea that it is only for Christmas.

The colors I used for this card are Whisper White, Pacific Point, Daffodil Delight, Granny Apple Green, Gorgeous Grape, Poppy Parade and Seaside Spray. Most of those colors are in the Brights family except for Seaside Spray which is an InColor. The reason I added this color is because I made another card using the swirly die in Seaside Spray in this set. The swirly die cuts out 5 small stars which I didn’t want to just throw out so I used a couple on this card. It works, I think.
