Approaching Perfection

Stampin Up Approaching Perfection

I don’t know about you, but I have a Designer Series Paper hoarding problem.  For some crazy reason, it is always so hard to make that first cut.  As a result of this, I end up having boxes and boxes of retired Designer Series Paper that never gets used.  I used to think that I needed to save it in case I decide to use it in one of my stamp classes.  I can’t use that excuse anymore since I am not holding any classes.  Therefore, I have decided to dedicate all my posts this week to making simple cards using Designer Series Paper and a sentiment.

This first card I made is using the Playing With Patterns Designer Series Paper from the Stampin’ Up!® 2020/2021 Annual Catalog.  I used the Night Of Navy polka dot piece for the background and the Purple Posy piece for the balloon.  The balloon and string are part of the Happy Dies which is also in the Annual Catalog.  Can you imagine using a brand new, uncut piece of DSP just for a small balloon?  Really.  Hoarding is a sickness.

I cut two pieces of cardstock (one Night Of Navy and one in Basic White) using the Stitched Nested Labels dies.  The sentiment is from a Sale-a-bration stamp set called Approaching Perfection.  You can get this stamp set for FREE if you purchase the Playing With Patterns DSP, the Stitched Nested Labels and a pack of Basic White cardstock!  Everyone loves FREE!

Stayed tuned for Wednesday’s and Friday’s posts for more cards using my Designer Series Paper.  I am determined to use this beautiful paper more often so you will see more of it in the future.

Nothing’s Better Than

Stampin Up Nothing's Better Than

Jackie made me do it.  Jackie is one third of our BS & J Productions Stamp Off Challenges.  She has posted a few cards using the Nothing’s Better Than stamp set along with the coordinating dies called Love You More Than (and yes, you can save 10% by purchasing them in a Bundle).  Her cards were so cute, I had to buy the bundle.  She is such an enabler!  I keep threatening to unfriend her because she is expensive to be friends with (just kidding Jackie).

The thing I love most about this bundle are the word dies.  They say Chocolate, Coffee and Cocktails.  I am not a coffee drinker but I will admit to chocolate and cocktails!

To make this card I first stamped the glasses in Memento Black Ink and then stamped the insides of each in Flirty Flamingo, Coastal Cabana and Mango Melody.  I colored the umbrellas and fruit using the coordinating Stampin’ Write Markers and cut them out using the coordinating dies.  I cut a piece of Daffodil Delight cardstock using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies and the word Cocktails in Coastal Cabana cardstock.

Cherry Blossom Dies

No one ever wants to make a sympathy card but things happen and, unfortunately it becomes necessary.  You wouldn’t think that sending someone a card would be a big thing when they are grieving a loved one but it is.  I remember when my Dad died years ago and my friends, acquaintances and some distant family members sent me lots of cards.  It was awesome and it brightened my day during this sad time.

I made this sympathy card just to have on hand.  Thankfully, I haven’t had to use it yet.  I used a set of dies called Cherry Blossoms that are in the Stampin’ Up!® 2020 Mini Catalog.  They have a matching stamp set called Forever Blossoms (which I didn’t use on this card) and if you buy them in a Bundle you can save 10%.   One of the things I love about this set of dies is that some of them emboss as well as cut.  If you look closely you can see the embossing on some of the flowers and leaves.  I cut the flowers out of Purple Posy, So Saffron and Highland Heather cardstock and the leaves out of Pear Pizzazz.  I used the dies called Stitched Nested Labels to cut out the piece of Whisper White cardstock.

The sentiment is from the stamp set called Peaceful Moments which is also in the Mini Catalog.

Don’t forget it is Sale-a-bration time! It is the best time of year in the Stampin’ Up!® world. Beautiful Friendship

Hello everyone.  Today’s BS & J Productions challenge is a color challenge.  I love color challenges!

I love Pretty Peacock  but never thought to put it with Mint Macaron and Blueing Bride but I love how they look together.  Here is my card:

To make this card I used the stamp set called Beautiful Friendship.  This set is in the Stampin’ Up!®  2019/2020 Annual Catalog.  This set is a DisInktive stamp set which is a patent pending stamp set that shows depth by having the images stamp lighter and darker in different places.  I love the Hydrangea image in this set (Hydrangeas are my favorite flower).  If you look at the image you can see how some of it stamps darker and some is lighter.

I first stamped the Hydrangea in Blushing Bride and then cut it out using the Stitched Shapes dies.  Then I ran a piece of Pretty Peacock cardstock through my die cut and embossing machine using the Subtle 3D Embossing Folder.  I stamped the sentiment in Pretty Peacock ink on a piece of Mint Macaron cardstock and cut that out using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies.  I stamped the leaves from the stamp set called Painted Harvest and punched them out using the Leaf Punch.  Lastly, I colored one of the hearts from the Heart Epoxy Droplets using my Dark Pretty Peacock Stampin Blends.  The Designer Series Paper is from the 6″ x 6″ Subtles Designer Series Paper packs.

Now, let’s go see what Buffy and Jackie made using these colors.

Free As a Bird

As most of you know, I live in the Northeast and right now we are being invaded by Robins.  I have never seen so many Robins before!  They are everywhere.  I know most people love having birds nest around their house but these Robins have gotten out of control.  They tried to build a nest on my outside lights (multiple places), my front door wreath, my deck and right over where I park my car.  Robins are cute (sort of) but they are also very, very messy.  I am not a fan.

I actually made this card a couple of months ago and never posted it.  It was before the mess started, back when I liked Robins and thought it would be cute to make a Robin card.

The cardstock colors I used on this card are Mossy Meadow, Cajun Craze and Whisper White.  I first stamped the bird and the branch from the stamp set Free As A Bird in Memento Black Ink and colored them using my Cajun Craze, Mossy Meadow and Light Basic Black Stampin’ Blends.  I stamped the sentiment in Memento Black ink too.  Then I stamped the flowers on a separate sheet of Whisper White cardstock and cut them out by hand (don’t look too closely) and colored them with a Dark Petal Pink Blend.

This stamp set has matching dies called Stitched Nested Labels Dies.  I think these dies are one of my favorites from the entire catalog.  You can save 10% by purchasing this stamp set and dies in a Bundle.  I cut out the entire image using one of the Stitched Nested Label Dies.  Then I cut a larger one out of Cajun Craze cardstock and then again out of the 4″x 5.25″ piece of Mossy Meadow cardstock.  The dies cut the inside of the image but also cut pierce the outside.  I love that part! Here is a close up where you can see I used the inside pieces for Whisper White and Cajun craze but used the outside piece for the Mossy Meadow.

Lastly I added the flowers using Dimensionals.

I probably should have used embossing paste along the bottom of the card to simulate the mess on my car, wreath and decks!

Free As A Bird

Earlier this month I had my first class.  This class used to be a club but I decided to change it up a bit this stamping year and make it a class instead.  We make 5 cards (2 of 2 designs and 1 a little more complicated).  During June I decided to make the two that are supposed to be the same be similar but not exactly the same to give the class attendees some different ideas to use with the same stamp set and/or layout.

Both of these cards used the stamp set called Free As A Bird.  This set has dies that go with it called Stitched Nested Labels and you can save 10% by purchasing them in a Bundle.

To make this card, I first randomly stamped the background using Pretty Peacock ink on Soft Sea Foam cardstock with the leaves and flowers.  Then I stamped the bird image in Pretty Peacock Ink onto Whisper White cardstock and cut it out using one of the Stitched Nested Labels Dies and colored it using a Dark Daffodil Delight, Light Flirty Flamingo and Dark Soft Sea Foam Green Stampin’ Blends.  I stamped the sentiment in Pretty Peacock Ink and also cut it out using the Stitched Nested Labels.

The second card has the same layout as the first one but looks totally different.  I inked the Embossing Folder called Country Floral 3D with Petal Pink Ink and then ran it through my die cutting machine with Whisper White cardstock.  I love this technique!  The ink only goes on the background with the images popping out.  Then I stamped the bird and sentiment in Memento Black Ink and cut it out using the Stitched Nested Labels dies.  I colored the bird using my Dark Petal Pink Stampin’ Blends.  I thought it needed something else so I added the bow using Nature’s Twine in Mint Macaron using a Glue Dot.

Geared Up Garage

Today is my youngest son, Zachary’s birthday.  Zachary is an amazing man.  Honestly, I am not sure how my children all grew up into men so fast.  I still think of them as kids until I realize how old they are.  Anyway, Zachary truly is amazing.  He is kind, patient, a wonderful father and a wonderful son.  Rob and I are very proud of him.

Although Zachary is not a car guy, I made his this card for his birthday.  Geared Up Garage is a great stamp set to use for masculine cards.  I don’t have many sets I can call masculine so this one gets used a lot.  I love the gear dies that go with it (called Garage Gears).  These products were in the 2019 Occasions Catalog and I am so glad they carried over.

The colors I used for this card are Basic Black, Basic Gray and Whisper White. First I stamped the background using Basic Gray Ink on Basic Gray cardstock.  Then I cut the gears out using Silver Foil Paper.  I stamped the car and the sentiment out using Basic Gray ink and then colored it using Daffodil Delight Blends.  Then I cut it out using the new dies called Stitched Nested Labels.  I love these dies because they are a fun shape and they put little stitch holes in the inside and outside of the cardstock.

Happy birthday, Zachary.  I love you and I am so proud of who you have turned into.
