This is another thank you card I made for my birthday. I love the stamp set called The Open Sea because it is great for making masculine cards. This set appeared in one of the Occasions Catalogs a few years ago. When it was not carried over into the Annual Catalog, a lot of people were upset. They (we) were so upset, we all did a write in campaign to Stampin’ Up! to bring it back. They must have gotten so many letters and emails that they decided to put it in the next annual catalog. That doesn’t happen very often so it much have been overwhelming. Personally, I hope they never retire it because it really is a great set to use.

The Open Sea
The Open Sea stamp set is one of those sets you can use for a masculine birthday card. I don’t know if men really care too much about cards unless, of course, they have money or a gift card inside it. I still try to make them anyway. It does let the person know you are thinking about them even if they don’t really care for cards.
My husband is a sailor and he tries to teach me all these nautical knots. I do really well at making them until the next time. By then, I have completely forgotten how to do it and he has to start all over again. I used Cherry Cobbler Bakers Twine to make this nautical knot for this card. Here is a close up of it.
It came out pretty cute, don’t you think? Rob will be so proud of me when he sees it. I just hope he doesn’t ask me to show him how to make it because I have already forgotten! I know. I am hopeless.
The Open Sea Birthday Card
The Open Sea is a great stamp set to use when you need to make a masculine card – especially if the man is a sailor. To make it even better, Stampin’ Up! just came out with some new Designer Series called Moonlight that has some papers that look like water. They go perfectly together. Then, to make it even better (if that is possible) the Moonlight Designer Series Paper uses the new 2014/2016 In Colors. I love Lost Lagoon and Hello Honey together. They are even nicer in person! The sentiment is from the stamp set called Four You which has four great sentiments to use for any occasion.
The Open Sea Birthday Card
This card uses another stamp set called The Open Sea that I hope will not retire. It is one of the best sets to use for a masculine card. I could be a little prejudice in this because I come from a family of sailors. My Dad was a sailor and so is Rob, my husband. His entire family is made up of sailors. Even though my Dad sailed, he did not teach his three daughters to do so. I am not sure if it was a sexist thing or it was the only way he could get away from all the women he was always surrounded by.
The background for this card was made using the World Map Background Stamp. The ribbon is 3/4″ Chevron Ribbon in Marina Mist.
Don’t forget the Retirement List will be coming out on April 21st. Everything on the list will be retiring as of June 1st or as supplies last. If you want something, order it as soon as possible before it goes forever. In addition to this, Stampin’ Up! is offering FREE SHIPPING from April 21st – 25th! Every order (except expedited) has free shipping!
The Open Sea Birthday Card
This card can be used as a masculine birthday card. I know they are always hard to come up with but The Open Sea stamp set is usually a great one to use when trying to make a card for a man. You know, this set was first available in a mini catalog. After the catalog retired, the stamp set retired. People loved this set so much, they wrote Stampin Up! and begged to bring it back. I don’t know the exact number of letter they got, but I do know it was significant enough for them to listen. I am so glad they brought it back!
I made the banners using the stamp set called Banner Blast that is in the 2014 Sale-a-bration catalog. It has a matching punch too! Beginning January 28th you can get this stamp set for free with a $50 purchase and with a $100 purchase you can get both the stamp set and the matching punch! How awesome is that??
The Open Sea Flip Card

Front Of Card

Inside Of Card
I really love Stampin Up’s Flip Card Thinlits. There are two of them available. One is a Circle Flip Card and one is a Label Flip Card. The card above uses the Circle. The best part of these Thinlits is that they make creating a flip card so easy. I made a couple of them in the past by hand and it took a lot to cut and score in the right places. It was not something I would do every often. I actually had a two hour class once showing the attendees how to make one by hand. Now you can make them in a matter of minutes.
I used a couple of different stamps with this card. The ship is from The Open Sea. The banner inside is a Hostess Set called Banner Greetings and the chevrons are actually a huge background stamp called Postively Chevron.

The Open Sea
You have probably thought lately that Stampin Up! doesn’t have any other colors than the new ones since that is what I seem to be using more of nowadays. No worries. They still have lots of other colors to choose from.
This masculine card was made using The Open Sea. It is my favorite set to use for masculine cards. What man doesn’t like ships or nautical things? I used the Window Frame Framelits to make the frame around the ship and then put it on the card base to give it a little dimension.
Mojo Monday & The Open Sea
Here is this week’s Mojo Monday challenge.
For this challenge I used the stamp set called The Open Sea. It is my “go to” man set. I think this is because my husband’s family is full of sailors so it is one of my husband’s favorite sets (if he had to choose a favorite set).

The Open Sea Fab Friday Challenge
How appropriate that I decide to do my first Fab Friday Challenge when it is Fab Friday Challenge 13. If you have been reading my blog you will have noticed that I am starting to participate in Challenges. It is a great way to get different ideas for layouts and colors. Here is this week’s Fab Friday Challenge:

Fab Friday Challenge 13
For this challenge I decided to man a masculine card using The Open Sea. This set was supposed to retire a year ago or so and so many people requested it stay that Stampin Up brought it back. It is a great set to use for the men in your life.
