Wild About Flowers

Wild About Flowers is one of the stamp sets that is not carrying over into the 2018/2019 Catalog.  This set reminds me of my childhood vacations that I used to spend at my grandparents house in Manchester Depot, Vermont.  They owned a store called Carriage Trade and lived something like a half mile behind the store.  Between their house and the store were fields of wild flowers.  It was a beautiful, peaceful place and a ton of fun for the kids.  They had a pond that we could swim and fish in.  There was a giant sand pile that was always a lot of fun to slide down, lots of woods and near all the big ski places.  Manchester now is totally different.  There are numerous houses between what used to the the store and my grandparents house.  Manchester has become a town full of outlets (stores) so now it is crowded and full of tourists.  I am sure the economy in that area is much better than it used to be.

In any case Wild Flowers is a two step stamp set.  This is where you use two or more stamps to make one image.  In this case, the stems are one stamp and the flowers are another.  I first stamped the stems in Emerald Envy (now of the InColors that is retiring). Then I stamped the flowers in Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, Peekaboo Peach and Lemon Lime Twist.  I cut the circle out using the Layering Circle Thinlits Dies.  Then I stamped the sentiment using the stamp set called One Big Meaning (also retiring) and cut that out using the same sized Circle Die.  I used Dimensionals to pop up the flower background and put the sentiment inside the hole.  It fit right inside since I used the same sized die.

An Embossing Paste Challenge

Hello everyone.  Welcome to another BS & J Productions Stamp Off Challenge.  Today’s challenge is to make something using the new Stampin’ Up! Embossing Paste.  If you haven’t tried this, you really need to.  It is different than other embossing pastes because it dries quickly.  You are going to love it!

My daughter-in-law to be has decided to go back to school to get her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.  I am so proud of her doing this.  It is going to be a challenge for her since she works full time, has a 5 month old baby (Emory Jade whom you have all met) and all the other things that need to get done in life.  I decided to send her a card telling her how proud I am.

I thought the stamp set called Bike Ride would be perfect for this.  It has a set of matching Framelits called Build A Bike (you can save 10% by purchasing both in a Bundle).  Although, she is not a kid, school, bikes, books and apples all go together.  I used the Embossing Paste to make a brick road.  To get this color I added one drop of Cherry Cobbler Ink and one drop of Cajun Craze Ink.  Stampin’ Up! sells the Pattern Party Decorative Masks in four different designs (one of which is the brick pattern).  They also sell a package of three different Palette Knives to use with the Paste.

The sentiment is from Wild About Flowers.  I masked off the different lines so I could stamp them in different places.

Now, let’s go see what Jackie and Buffy made using the Stampin’ Up! Embossing Paste.

A Watercolor Creation

I decided I need to go out of my comfort zone every once in a while.  Sometimes I get in a rut so it was fun to try something different.  This is not a new technique by any means but it is kind of new to me.

To make this card I lightly spritzed some water on Shimmery White Cardstock.  Then I stamped the flowers from the stamp set called Wild About Flowers a couple of times in Berry Burst (a new InColor coming soon).  The color did run a little more than I had planned but I through it still looked ok (remember I am getting out of my comfort zone of crisp images).  Then I waited a little bit until the cardstock was almost dry before stamping the flowers a third time.  They didn’t run as much as the first two.  After that I stamped the fern from Butterfly Basics in Old Olive, more flowers in another new InColor coming soon called Powder Pink.  Finally, I stamped the sentiment in Memento Tuxedo Black Ink when the card was completely dry.  I probably should have used a bolder sentiment but it was too late.

I think I’ll stick with my crisp images!

A Stamp Off Sketch Challenge

This week Buffy, Jackie and I have a sketch off challenge.  It was a collaboration between Jackie and me.  She found a design and I tweaked it.

Here is my card:

I am still on my quest to use my Designer Series Paper.  I’ve told you before.  I am a hoarder.  It just seems so hard to cut that first piece.  I don’t know why but this year I vowed to use it more often.  So far I am doing better than previous years but not as well as I would like.

I used the stamp set called Wild About Flowers.  You would love this set.  It reminds me of a country meadow filled with wild flowers.  The sentiment is from Endless Birthday Wishes.  This set has been a very popular one with my customers.  The font is great and it has a lot of sentiments in it.  There is a sister stamp set called Endless Thanks which uses the same font and also has a lot of different sentiments.  Sadly both of these sentiment stamp sets are being retired on May 31st.  I will miss them!  Don’t forget to check what else is retiring by clicking on the button to the right of this post.

The Designer Series Paper is called A Little Foxy.  It uses some of the most popular colors (Smoky Slate, Calypso Coral and Pool Party).

Now, let’s go see what Jackie and Buffy created.  I am sure they will be awesome!

A Stamp Off Thanks

Stamp Off Logo Clean

I hope everyone had a terrific Thanksgiving and that you were filled with family, friends, good food and thankfulness.  Today’s Stamp Off Challenge is called “Let’s Be Grateful”.

november-25-2016

I decided not to use the tradition Fall or Thanksgiving colors and theme for my card.  Instead I went with pinks and purples.

Wild About Flowers, Thoughtful Banners, Stitched Shapes, Stampin Up, susanstamps.wordpress.com

Whenever I get stuck on making a card, I look for a sketch challenge to do.  I found one similar to this layout but I changed it a bit and made it simpler.

I used the new Stitched Shapes Framelits.  These Framelits are actually going to be in the 2017 Annual Catalog but Stampin’ Up! decided to release them early.  This made me so happy since I love the look of the stitching.  The best part is this set of Framelits have circles, ovals and squares!

The flowers are from the stamp set called Wild About Flowers and the sentiment is from Thoughtful Banners.  The Designer Series Paper is called Blooms & Bliss.

Someone asked me how I cut the triangles of paper so evenly.  It is super simple!  You just cut a square (this one is 3″ x 3″) and then make a cut from one corner to the opposite corner.  That way both sides are exactly the same size.

Now, let’s go see what Jackie and Buffy have made for their Thank You cards.  I am sure we will be awed!

Wild About Flowers

Wild About Flowers, One Big Meaning

Yesterday I mentioned out of the blue that I went to South Carolina to visit my mom with my sisters.  One of the fun things we did was to go to a large outlet shopping area.  We went to all the usual stores we normally go to but then I spied a Swarovski store.  We decided to go into it to see what it was like.  Well, that a big mistake, although not so much for me as for my sisters.  This store is full of bling!  Everything in it sparkles.  Of course, we had to look around.  I found two gorgeous bangle bracelets.  They were beautiful and fit perfectly (of course) but they were way more money then I would spend.  Well, it just so happens that I have a birthday coming up soon.  It is a big birthday.  It is a very big birthday!  So, my amazing sisters bought me these bracelets for my birthday.  Aren’t they awesome sisters?

So this is one of the Thank You Cards I made for them.  I used the Wild About Flowers stamp set and One Big Meaning for the sentiment.  First I stamped the sentiment on a piece of Post-It Note Paper.  Then I cut around it and made a mask so that the stems of the flowers would not stamp where I wanted the sentiment.  Then I stamped the stems over the mask and then stamped the sentiment in the blank space the mask made.

Thank you to my awesome sisters!  You are both amazing!

Wild About Flowers

Wild About Flowers, Hardwood

Wow!  I just realized this is another purple card.  I am not sure what is wrong with me.  I must be starting to like purple (Elegant Eggplant).  I think it is because it goes so well with Calypso Coral and Daffodil Delight.  Alone, purple is not on my favorite list but put it together with other colors and it looks nice.

I love the Wild About Flowers stamp set.  It is in the Annual Catalog and I liked it the minute I saw it.  It is a two step stamp set which means you use two stamps to make one image.  In the case of this stamp set, the stems are one stamp and the flowers are another.  They come labeled for you so it makes it easy to know which flower goes with which stem stamp.

I stamped the “fence” using the Hardwood Background stamp in Soft Suede.  I wanted it to look a little weathered so I sponged some more Soft Suede on top.

Wild About Flowers, Hexagon Hive Thinlits

I know everyone is probably busy making Christmas cards (if you aren’t you better get moving!!) but sometimes I need a break from them.  I love so many of my stamp sets and I think the non-holiday ones feel lonesome during this time of year.  I decided to take out the set called Wild About Flowers and make a thank you card.  The background was made using the Hexagon Hive Thinlits.  It is another one of those products that don’t get a lot of love this time of year.  I love the look of it as a background.
I am sure tomorrow we will be back to our regularly scheduled Christmas program!

Madelyn went to visit her other grandmother this weekend.  Here she is waiting at the airport for a ride home.

Wild Flowers & A Sneak Peek

Wild About Flowers, A Little Something

The Stampin’ Up! Holiday Catalog is coming out on September 1st so I decided to give you a little sneak peek of one of the stamps in that catalog.  It is really just a small peek because it is the sentiment I used on this card.  The stamp set is called A Little Something and it goes with a new Thinlit used to make a 3D project.  You will have to wait to see what it is but I know you will love it and use it a lot (especially around the holidays).  Anyway, the stamp set has five different sentiments and 4 different objects in it.  You can see the picture of it below.  It is very cute!

The flowers are from the stamp set called Wild About Flowers.  That is set available now because it is in the Annual Catalog.

Wild About Flowers

Wild About Flowers, Greeetings Thinlits

Here is another card I made using the stamp set called Wild About Flowers.  This set is a two-step stamp set (say that three times fast!) where you first stamp the stems and leaves and then stamp the flowers.  It is a Photopolymer stamp set which makes it easy to line up each stamp.  I used Cajun Craze, Delightful Dijon, Tip Top Taupe (for the Hardwood background) and Garden Green for the stems.

Madelyn has discovered her hands and fingers (as you can see).  I hope she doesn’t become a thumb sucker because the orthodontist bills will kill her parents!
